Adam Scott’s message to Presidents Cup fans: Don’t cheer on Tiger

Published

on

Adam Scott has urged fans at next week’s Presidents Cup not to cheer Tiger Woods or any other U.S. player for that matter, as the 2013 Masters champion looks for a more partisan home crowd than usual.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, Scott stated

“Last time it was too friendly. Quite bluntly, we want the home-crowd advantage, and I’ll be disappointed if they are cheering enthusiastically for Tiger or anyone on the U.S. team.”

Scott is set to play in his eighth Presidents Cup next week, and as the International side as a whole, is looking to improve on a dismal individual record at the event (14-20-5 ). At Royal Melbourne, the 39-year-old believes the Australian crowd have the potential to turn the tide in the often one-sided competition.

“I’m not saying be a poor sport, but one challenge our team has always had is gaining a home-soil advantage because it’s rare that stars like Tiger and DJ (Dustin Johnson) come to Australia (2011) or Korea (2015) where we play these things and the locals are excited to see them as much as anyone on our team. But while we appreciate them very much, we don’t have to cheer for them.”

The Presidents Cup gets underway next week from Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

What an unprofessional comment. Americans cheer for all players when they play here.

There’s always players on the opposing team that are big-draws for the home crowd, guys like Mickelson and Tiger fit that bill. Seve was the same.

In my opinion, he is the real “Captain America”

Never stop never stopping trying to play good…

…that’s about as much sense as I can muster here.

Ian Poulter repays USGA after U.S. Open locker smash

Published

on

The U.S. Open is the event which often makes players see red, and two years ago at Shinnecock Hills that was certainly the case for Ian Poulter.

Ahead of this week’s test at Winged Foot, the Englishman took to Instagram to reveal the damage he did to a U.S. Open locker after the event back in 2018, where he announced he had now reimbursed the USGA for the incident while also issuing a lighthearted apology.

“2 years ago at Shinnecock Hills… I must have tripped and fallen against my locker causing it to fall apart…
Robbie felt I was still a little warm last year so left it 2 years before asking for reimbursement for the damage…Today I repaid Robbie for my mishap.”

In 2018 following the third round of the U.S. Open, several players criticised the course set up and one of the most vocal that day was Ian Poulter who produced a Twitter tirade after the brutal Saturday.

Thankfully all has been resolved now, although Poulter will need a solid Friday at Winged Foot to see the third round of the U.S. Open this week after stumbling to a round of 5-over par on Thursday.
