Costco to provide full refunds to customers who bought Kirkland Signature four-piece balls

Golfers who purchased Kirkland Signature four-piece balls are in line for a full refund after Costco began reaching out to customers of the product via email.

The original four-piece Kirkland Signature four-piece balls proved a success on their release back in 2016, but the new line has come under fire this summer, with the ball’s cover taking the brunt of the criticism.

Customers have claimed that the balls are prone to cutting up after short use, while the balls are currently rated 2 out of 5 from customers on Costco’s website.

In an email shared on Twitter by user @gerencher, which shows Costco actively refunding customers, the company stated that “Feedback we received since the item went on sale shows that some of the balls do not meet the high standards that are expected for the Kirkland Signature brand.”

Costco also added that the full refund would include shipping costs and customers are also allowed to keep the item.

The new ones are three piece. The refunds would be on the new three piece? Please make a correction!

Costco released a new 4-piece golf ball that sold out with hours. But they were not a very good quality build, so they are refunding all the customers for their purchase of the 4-piece.

Costco still sells the 3-piece golf ball on their site.

So I don’t think they need to make any corrections to this article.

It is real clear the cover was not put on these balls properly, about 6 years ago I bought 4 dozen balls from one the big boys that had the exact same problem, we would hit them and when they cracked we would just take a tee and peel off the entire cover many times it came off completely. I would love to hear what the ball plant tells COSTCO the problem was/is…

Liked the 4 piece but I moved to the 3 piece as soon as it came out. Feels a little softer to me and cheaper. I lose them so fast I wouldn’t have noticed a fragile cover on the 4 piece so could have gotten some free balls out of it. Just my luck.

The four piece balls where made in South Korea, and their most recent offering are a three piece ball made in China. I had heard about the Kirkland balls and was looking forward to when I got down to Florida (they’re not available in Canadian Costco stores) only to be disappointed with what was on their shelf. I like ProVs and was hoping to see a more affordable replacement, but not so much. Back to the flea market for pre-loved Titleist ProVs.

What Tyler Durden’s completely unhelpful and inappropriate post means to say is that they brought out a new four piece a couple/few weeks back that sold out immediately. These “return of four piece” are the ones that were apparently recalled.

And Tyler, I don’t care what you say, I’m tellin everyone about FC 😉

I bought 2 big boxes of those balls from COSTCO (internet sale) months ago and have had no trouble with them. And a friend who finds tons of lost balls gave me a dozen of them (used) this week – and none of them showed any sign of a problem. From reading some months ago, I learned that the balls are manufactured by a Korean company/factory, and that COSTCO was being sued by Titleist because the Kirkland balls were so similar to Pro-V’s. I’ve not been offered a refund by COSTCO – maybe the balls I bought were not in the defective line.

Keep up with what is happening if you bought months ago you bought the 3 piece ball…the new 4 piece did not last 2 days online at Costco…the 4 piece ball is the problem not YOUR 3 Piece ones…

I am NOT a fan of big box stores, and firmly believe we will all regret the dwindling of small businesses in favor of them.

That said, Costco seems to do a far better job of taking care of its employees and customers than Wal-Mart, Amazon, etc.

Buy your golf balls at a golf shop.

Times change. Even most small stores have an internet presence. Compete or go out of business.

        Sep 25, 2019 at 10:27 am

Yeah, it doesn’t really work that way. Balls are manufactured by an independent company overseas. Costco simply purchases from them and slaps their own branding on it.

I bet it spun like a mother, though!!

This is strange. It’s not like Costco got into golf ball manufacturing, they subcontracted the brand to an existing factory. With Costco being such a big player at retail, and other Kirkland brands kicking ass (wine, vodka, etc.) you would have thought they chose a reputable factory with a track record to make balls that would carry their logo (Nike subbing to Bridgestone, for example). Even Vice can find a good factory, for Pete’s sake. Someone in procurement needs a demotion.

I had no issues at all with my cases. I have played 6 rounds with them so far. Love them for the price. I hope this does not dissuade them from making more in the future!! it was obviously not all balls. I have a high swing speed, and spin my wedges a bunch, no cover issues at all.

    • RSN

      Sep 25, 2019 at 12:59 pm

I as well had no issues until I hit a cart path leaving a “rug” burn. But that’s with any ball.

There are plenty of pictures all over the r/golf subreddit to prove this. One guy said he bladed a wedge from about 100 yards and when he got to his ball, it looked like someone had cut it with a knife. Good on Costco for making it right.

A throwback to the old days of balata balls where bad shots also resulted in cuts to the cover.

I bought a sleeve of balata’s once and the pro looked at me without skipping a beat and said, don’t hit’em thin.

Yeah i was thinking this may be the major cause. I can hit TP5s a “little” thin and get the same thing, know before i look that it’s cut. One of the reason’s i switched to Srixon, easier than fixing my poor short game…

WGC-Mexico lays commemorative plaque for vintage 2019 Tiger Woods bunker shot

Tiger Woods may not be playing at this week’s WGC-Mexico, but those in the field who are will see a new commemorative plaque on the ninth hole dedicated to a shot from the 15-time major champion at the 2019 tournament.

The plaque sits just outside the fairway bunker on the par-4 ninth hole and pays homage to Woods’ spectacular 134-yard shot with a 9-iron which he carved around a tree and spun to 12-feet.

Check out the shot below.

Brooks Koepka talks the Olympics, Kobe Bryant, and Tiger at the Masters in a SiriusXM Town Hall broadcast

Kimberly White/Getty Images for SiriusXM

While Brooks Koepka’s comments on SiriusXM regarding Patrick Reed grabbed the headlines this week, the four-time major champion spoke about several interesting subjects in the town hall broadcast, including the Olympics, Kobe Bryant and what Tiger Woods said to him following the 2019 Masters.

On the subject of the Olympics, Koepka stated how he was currently on the fence about the event, explaining how he believes it would be “cool to be an Olympian” but that it has “thrown a kind of a wrench in the schedule.”

“Right now, to be honest with you, I’m kind of 50-50. I want to do it, yes, I think it would be awesome to do. But at the same time we have majors, WGCs, the playoffs, its all kind of… I mean, these (motions to PGA Championship trophy) take it out of me, I’ll be honest with you. You come down and I need two days just to kind of mentally recharge.

It’ll be interesting just the timing of it, where it is at. The playoffs are kind of important. I’d like $15 mil. I think that’d be nice. I’d like to be fresh for that. If anything I’m leaning more towards going. It’s an honor. You play for your country.”

On hearing of Kobe Bryant’s death, Koepka spoke about how he was blown away, how he found it difficult to believe it was real, and how despite never meeting Bryant, the loss hit him so hard that he ended up crying in his hotel room.

As Bryant was his childhood idol, Koepka said he got on the phone that night to Nike to ensure that the unfinished project of his Kobe Bryant-inspired golf shoes would be completed to honor the basketball great.

The 31-year-old lost out to Tiger Woods by one stroke at the 2019 Masters, and recounted how Woods was quick to remind him that this levelled up their affair after Koepka had seen off Woods’ challenge at the 2018 PGA Championship.

“Augusta was interesting because, coming down the stretch I rinsed one on 12. We all know what happened. We all know he won. But it was crazy walking off the green and being there to congratulate him. The first thing he said was, ‘One-and-one now.’ (laughs)”

The entire Brooks Koepka Town Hall special will be rebroadcast on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio on Wednesday, Feb. 19 (10:00 pm ET), Friday, Feb. 21 (8:00 pm ET) and Sunday, Feb. 23 (noon ET). The full special is also available now on SiriusXM On Demand.
