Justin Thomas opens up on skin cancer scare in social media post

Published

on

Justin Thomas took to social media on Thursday to share his skin cancer scare after a recent trip to the dermatologist.

In his post, the 26-year-old revealed that a mole on his left leg was discovered to be in the early stages of melanoma, on which Thomas stated

“Luckily, we found it at a time where there should be no problems going forward.”

Thomas has urged everyone to get checked, especially those regularly exposed to the sunwhile he also displayed the large incision he was left with after the removal of the mole.

“I recently had a scare at the dermatologist where a very small mole on my left leg was caught in the early stages of melanoma. Luckily, we found it at a time where there should be no problems going forward. That being said, EVERYBODY GO GET CHECKED!!

No harm can come from it and it’s the best way to catch anything before it becomes a serious issue. Especially for all the junior golfers (and other athletes) spending so much time in the sun. It is so important to make sure you’re monitoring your body – no matter how old you are or how much sunscreen you use. It really got my attention, and hoping it does the same to y’all!”

I have a scar in the same place for exactly the same condition. Mine was 25 years ago. Stay commited to being checked yearly.

That’s a huge incision for a little mole! Is that a picture of JT’s leg or someone else’s? Wow!
At least he’s all good now.

Melanoma excisions need at least a margin of 1″ all around the tumor. I had a small one on my lip that they weren’t able to take enough of a margin and five years later it became full blown stage 4 metastatic Melanoma. Believe me, your life will be changed much more than a little scar will do. I’ll be fighting this thing until it kills me, while the treatment has completely ruined my previously excellent health. I live on countless medications and pain killers now to counter the effects of the disease and the aftermath of the chemo. Get checked!

I would have had no idea. Dang. Just reading the story makes it sound much more insignificant. Just a little mole means a much bigger incision and removal. God bless!

Good luck with your recovery and constant battle.

That’s pretty normal actually. Wife just had a similar removal just about her knee. The amount of skin remove is quite a bit as they want to remove about an 1″ in all directions. The actual shape of removal is football in shape as that allows them to pull edges together better.
