Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from el_b00t who is on the hunt for some used wedges, and concerned over how much face wear may be too much, has sought the advice of WRXers. Our members share their views while often taking into account both groove wear and bounce options.

cgasucks: “I’d buy a cheap cast wedge with grooves that haven’t worn out, preferably used. Grooves on forged wedges tend to shallow out a lot faster because of the softer metal.”
RogerInNewZealand: “588 Cleveland 52 58 in black five years old mid bounce.”
games: “Buy one 56* or 58* wedge with as much bounce as possible. 12* or 14*. Then learn to do everything with that one club. Chip, pitch, flop, sand play. Then, buy Monte’s short game video “Use the Bounce 2.0”
ZA206: “At a minimum, you need a PW and a SW. I’d also advise getting a gap wedge to go in between. I wouldn’t bother with a lob wedge until you have become proficient with the SW. I’d go to a golf shop and look at the new wedges and see what you like, then go on eBay and buy used previous year models of those wedges. Used wedges should be CHEAP since they are consumable.”

Spotted: Project X Denali hybrid shaft

Project X’s Denali wood shafts have been seen in more and more golf bags this year as we start off the season. As a refresher, Denali Blue is the mid-launch and mid-spin model while Denali Black is for players seeking lower launch and spin.

Denali combines great feel with stability and increased ball speed. Currently, Project X only offers Denali Blue and Black in wood shafts, but we spotted a hybrid shaft in Daniel Berger’s bag at the 2024 Zurich Classic.

The shaft looks to be a Denali Blue 105G – HY in TX flex. No word on details from Project X yet but we can assume that this is a mid-launching shaft that weighs around 105 grams in Tour X-Stiff flex.

Berger has this shaft in his TaylorMade P770 3-iron, likely for some added launch and spin to hold the green from longer distances.

Hopefully, this means we will see some more shafts coming under the Denali name in the future, as I think many of us would like to try one in a hybrid or utility iron!
