On Spec: Please don’t play blades (or maybe play them anyway)

Published

on

Host Ryan talks about the different ways to enjoy the game and maximizing your equipment enjoyment which doesn’t always have to mean hitting it 15 yards farther. The great debate of blades vs cavity backs is as old of an argument you will find in golf but both sides can be right equaling right. Ryan explains why.

    Ryan-

The golf club you display is a 1964 Wilson/Walter Hagen Haig Ultra “Fluid Feel” iron-

It was the basis for the mid-1980s Wilson/Walter Hagen “Crenshaw Grind” model-

Where the ’64 model was RH/LH, the ’80s Hagen/Crenshaw models were strictly RH Only.

    That is noteworthy.

Everyones getting fit for clubs, clubs are getting more “forgiving”, golf balls are going further………….. And scores are still the same.

Life is too short, you might be dead soon! If you want to play bladed irons “do it” because no one else really cares but you.

“both sides can be right equaling right.”

For people like me with long (driving) commutes, podcasts are great. The format lends itself really well to conversations / interviews, and doesn’t require nearly as much production and editing as a written article does. There are scripted podcasts out there that do require a lot of work to put together, but most of the GolfWRX podcasts are pretty laid back.

Having said that, it would be great if GolfWRX could hook Ryan up with a co-host or sidekick.

On Spec: Fairway wood fittings | Adam Scott wins with 17-year-old irons

The second part of the show is about finding the right fairway woods for you, and why if you have a club that does the job you should probably hold onto it.
