Forum Thread of the Day: “Favorite 5-wood?”
Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from el_28 who asks our members for their favorite 5-wood. Looking to switch his 17º hybrid for a 5-wood, el_28 also asks fellow members for their preferred 5-wood/shaft combination, and our members oblige with plenty of recommendations.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Warrick: “The F9 Tour is an easy transition from a hybrid with the small head, rails seem to be a plus also.”
- IL2AZ: “M3 lofted to 19.75 with Aldila Rogue Black 80x. One of the smaller CC 5 wood heads on the market and sits very open, even lofted up one click. It almost plays as a combo hybrid/fw combining the benefits of both.”
- bcsquare: “Currently playing the Cobra F9 with the Atmos Blue TS 7S; been loving it. It’s plenty forgiving and has a tall flight. The F9 Tour is great also if you like a smaller footprint and a more penetrating flight. GBB Epic is another good one with the HZRDUS shaft; this one was quite hot off the face.”
- NDGolfer13: “I have a cobra Ltd by complete accident, and it’s a fantastic club. It is really easy to hit (I’m playing it at a lower setting, and it’s neutral) has an adbb shaft and it’s very very good.”

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
- driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300. The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length. I am playing a Ventus Red 70. I play 70 grams in my fairways. I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee. When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time. So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck. The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
- JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

This guy gets paid to write this article? I Know, let’s post on Twitterand ask the question on 5 woods. First five different answers gets the nod. Add about 100 words and collect a paycheck.. Rubbish!

I love TEE, but why would you want a 5 wood that goes further than your 3 wood.

I LOVE my Srixon fairway woods. I can work them and yet they are very forgiving. Great sound when you connect too.
