Forum Thread of the Day: “Robert Garrigus handed three-month suspension after testing positive for marijuana”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from lawsonman who began the thread discussing Robert Garrigus’ three-month ban for testing positive for marijuana. Our members discuss the ban handed to him by the PGA Tour, as well as the following statement which Garrigus posted on social media on Friday.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion at the link below.

  • marmosskapaul: “The problem with pot is that it stays in your system too long. IDK if there is any way to measure the amount of THC like alcohol breathalyzer for people driving or not. What amount is permissible and what amount is not.?? That is going to be the problem with drug legalization. Will employers put up with a positive blood test?? You come to work with alcohol in your system, and most places fire you. You get pulled over driving..you get arrested. Will be interesting how it pans out. I’m ok with legalization, and I personally can’t stand a THC buzz…but doesn’t bother me if others smoke or eat it around me.”
  • Ashley Schaeffer: “I honestly didn’t know they tested for weed. Testing golfers for weed in my neck of the woods would be like testing baristas for kale in Portland.”
  • Swisstrader98: “Yet another reason millennials are running away from the game…weed is the opposite of PED’s.”

Question, would you rather be in a room full of drunks or a room full of stoners? One room is looking for fights the other is looking for pizza…

Suspended for marijuana? Really? In this day and age? Whatever for?

It’s not like marijuana use gives you a competitive advantage. Unlike beta-blockers, marijuana goes directly against one’s motor skills.

Alcohol is a drug and it’s not tested for. Why? Because it’s legal and no one gets an advantage by using it. (Although some do claim a benefit in consuming a bit of “swing oil” at the turn. I think that’s just rationalization.)

That leaves legality, and that’s changing. Is it really the Tour’s responsibility to enforce legality? Do they audit tax returns submitted by Tour players? Do they follow their courtesy cars to ensure they obey all traffic laws?

This is stupid. It’s juvenile. And, as far as competition on the Tour goes, it’s irrelevant. I guess that’s why the Tour just couldn’t resist. Idiots.

Marijuana is toxic. Period. ‘Experts’ claiming it’s healthy is sickening– my medical experience with it tells a different story. Garrigus needs help, but at least this is raising awareness for all those needing and seeking sobriety.

So what does that have to do with suspending him from competition? How is that any of the Tour’s business?

      And alcohol isn’t?

Try eating a boat load of poppy seeds and ask your employer to drug test you and tell us what happened

Marijuana is def a touchy subject. And I highly doubt he would play stoned.

      Not touchy at all.
It’s helps some people. And it’s a drug of abuse and that is why it’s banned.
Legal status means nothing. Many drugs are legal everywhere but they’re banned in sports. That’s the point.
Cant play by the rules? Don’t play.

Golf has a long, long history of alcohol abuse on and off the golf course. I don’t see any difference, other than alcohol has a longer history of legal and social acceptance (Prohibition aside). I’d suggest the ill effects are worse than weed, both short and long-term, but the “right” people push for it’s acceptance, whereas weed is Willie Nelson and Rastas.

Do they test for alcohol? I wonder if nicotine should be classified a PED. Surely the most abused drug in modern times.

Except when the rules are really stupid, like here.

“And it’s a drug of abuse and that is why it’s banned.”

Your logic is weak. Alcohol is abused far more frequently and widely than is marijuana, but it is not banned.

No, this is about demonizing marijuana, which powerful agents in society have done since its rise in popularity during Prohibition.

You’re welcome to point to even one interest of the Tour’s being served by testing players for marijuana use. I’d love to hear that one.

“Cant play by the rules? Don’t play.”

While I don’t agree that marijuana usage should be frowned upon, I do agree with your statement. Thems the rules.

Crazy…..if the golfer had cancer guess they Couldnt treat….im a Decent player but can’t play “stoned”….if the PRE just left it alone….poor play would take care of the problem

From the Forums: How are you liking TaylorMade’s Qi10 fairway woods?

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing TaylorMade’s new Qi10 fairway woods. WRXer ‘ace036’ plans on testing them in the next few weeks, saying: “from how they look from address and frame the ball is much more appealing to my eye versus my current Paradym fairway woods.” And our members have been sharing their positive feedback in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Edwardsr: “I got fit into the Qi10 core model with Ventus TR Black 8X and it’s absolutely amazing for me.During the fitting with my 12-15 swings with it, it was the most efficient combo I’ve ever tested, tons of 1.48 smash and 3 or 4 1.49 smash (which I don’t think I’ve ever gotten on 3 wood on a launch monitor).”
  • MiloMalt: “No complaints and so far only high praise for my Qi10 Tour 3 and 5 wood. I’m getting great numbers and a nice penetrating ball flight with great height whereas with my old TSi2 4 wood it was spinny and ballooning and short because of that.”
  • courcy75: “The Qi10 Tour 3 wood I just put in play has been outstanding for me. Finally found something I like as much as the 07 burner tp.”
