Tweets of the Week: Tiger’s humor, Rose’s fanatical supporter, and Spieth’s trick shot

Published

on

Rory McIlroy held his nerve to win the Players Championship after an explosive Sunday at TPC Sawgrass, while Guido Migliozzi won his maiden title on the European Tour at the Kenya Open. After a busy week, here are a few of the things you may have missed and some of the quirkier moments from the world of golf dished out in the Twittersphere over the past seven days.

Spieth’s Driver Flop Shot

His game on the course might not be near its best currently, but this shot pre-event from Spieth is a sight to behold.

Chamblee’s Bad News

Brandel Chamblee ruined every Tiger fans’ Saturday morning with this tweet…

..before Tiger made it all better by providing us all with this classic moment on the island green that evening.

Tiger’s Mugshot

That wasn’t the only thing Woods found amusing on Saturday either…

Justin Rose’s Biggest Fan?

Wow indeed.

Jon Rahm Implosion

I also do not understand any of this.

Gentleman Jim’s Hat Tan

That’s a ten.

Anyone know why the video of the Rahm/caddie exchange has been taken down everywhere?

      Gianni is a BEAST!
      .
But Spieth’s shot was neither a flop shot nor a slice. It was just a driver tapped to the right, bounced into the uphill and landed on the putting surface. Not easy by any means. But not a “flop slice” at all.

Jack Nicklaus had to apologize after a text he sent to Justin Thomas at the Workday Charity Open

Published

on

Jack Nicklaus is known for his congratulatory handshakes at Muirfield Village. But last Sunday the 18-time major champion suffered an embarrassing mishap which ended with him needing to send an apologetic text message to last week’s runner up.

The Golden Bear was on board a flight set to take off to Dublin, Ohio while Sunday’s playoff was in process, and after Thomas sunk his 50-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole, Nicklaus felt the tournament was done.

Speaking to media at Muirfield Village on Tuesday, Nicklaus revealed:

“We were getting ready to take off, the first hole of the playoff, Justin Thomas holes that big long putt. Well, I saw the putt. We didn’t see Morikawa’s putt. Barbara and I both texted Justin and said to him, ‘Wow, what a fantastic putt, unbelievable, fantastic, super putt. Can’t believe that you made that putt. Now you’ve got the chance to win two in a row.’ And then we got up in the air, and we picked up WiFi after 10,000 feet, and we found out Morikawa won the tournament, and so I had to send him another text and say, ‘Oops, a little premature.’”

Thankfully for Nickalus, Thomas reacted well to the premature text, with the 18-time major champ explaining:

“He texted back, and he said, ‘All’s good, it’s OK.’ He was good about it.”
