In our “Lesson of the Day” video series with V1 Sports, we match a different GolfWRX member with a different V1 Sports instructor. It’s extremely important to both V1 Sports and GolfWRX to help golfers improve their games and shoot lower scores, and there’s no better way to do that than getting lessons. About the pro

A Top 100 Teacher by Golf Magazine and a PGA class-A Professional, Brad Brewer successfully competed on the Austral-Asian PGA Tour and Hogan/Nike Tours. After playing on the tour he co-founded the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy and directed its ten year expansion throughout the world. He developed the training curriculum for high performance juniors at Saddlebrook Preparatory and applies these experiences to his teaching and coaching at the Brad Brewer Golf Academy at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando. Brad was awarded the North Florida PGA Teacher of the Year and Junior Golf Leader of the Year, along with the honor of Top 33 Instructor in Florida by Golf Digest magazine. Brad is The Golf Channel’s “Daily Brew” Online Instructor. Author of “My Golf Journal, Golf for Everybody,” and, “Arnold Palmer’s Success Lessons: Wisdom on Golf, Business, and Life from the King of Golf.”

Lesson synopsis

Overall, this GolfWRX member has a good looking golf swing reminiscent of Dustin Johnson. However, there are two main swing flaws that will keep him from seeing consistently straight shots. The first is a strong golf grip, causing the closing of the club face at impact. The second is hips that are too square to the target at impact, causing a lack of power and consistency.

Student’s action plan

  1. Grip the club in the palm of the fingers so that hand is more on top of the shaft.
  2. Practice the basketball drill demonstrated at the end of the video lesson.

    With club held across the back of the shoulder blades, results in left shoulder dipping down and hips sliding. The typical , one plane faulty turn.

    If club is held in front of the chest. the torso can turn using the lower body
    and left scapula is free to abduct ie left shoulder moves under the chin and right scapula adducts
