Forum Thread of the Day: “What happened to Angel Cabrera?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from golfnhack, who discusses the current struggles of former U.S. Open and Masters champion, Angel Cabrera. As golfnhack points out in the opening post of the thread, the Argentine is currently competing on the Web.com Tour where he shot rounds of 79 and 80 last week. Our members share their thoughts on Cabrera’s current form, while also reminiscing about their experience following “El Pato” up close during a round, and his past accomplishments in the game.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Holy Moses: “Age. Is going to be a Hall of Famer most likely. Doesn’t have time to practice like he used to?”
  • dpb5031: “I hope he gets his game back as he’s one of my favorites to watch. He plays quickly and seems to fully release every shot…no holding on whatsoever. His US Open win at Oakmont may have been the finest combination of power and accuracy with driver ever exhibited in a major championship.”
  • scotee: “I was privileged to see him play in person at the Open in Chambers Bay. You could pick him out from a mile away from the way he would stride up the fairway. So much natural talent and like others have said he did not make anyone wait to take his shot. One of the fun guys to watch for sure! I hope he does play often on the Senior Tour.”
  • Walter Sobchak: “El Pato is one that can go off the radar then show up and win Augusta on a hot week.  Course fits him, and I would assume it is his motivational peak for the year.  Hope he pops up on the leaderboard in April!”
  • BearQ: “His iron shot into 18 to force OT in the rain Masters ‘13 was one of best under pressure all time.”

But what went wrong with beating the wife and punching and attempting to run over his girlfriend with his car? EL PATO, what happened?!
Let’s hope it’s not drug related. Hang in there big fella.

He likes to eat and drink fine things. Enjoyed a good life after his few big victories and things were cheap in his home country, so he stretched it out well. Now he’s just playing for fun. Not a big deal

He’s four months away from the senior tour. He’s keeping sharp by playing on the web dot com circuit.

I saw him today. I have never seen a pro so easily distracted. Ever. (Well, maybe all time great lickliter, too.)

I read that cabrera belongs in the hof. Then daly has got to go in, also.

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
