Hidden Gem of the Day: Quail Hollow Golf Course in McComb, Mississippi

Published

on

These aren’t the traditional “top-100” golf courses in America, or the ultra-private golf clubs you can’t get onto. These are the hidden gems; they’re accessible to the public, they cost less than $50, but they’re unique, beautiful and fun to play in their own right. We recently asked our GolfWRX Members to help us find these “hidden gems.” We’re treating this as a bucket list of golf courses to play across the country, and the world. If you have a personal favorite hidden gem, submit it here!

Today’s Hidden Gem of the Day was submitted by GolfWRX member ldgriff07, who takes us to Quail Hollow Golf Course in McComb, Mississippi. Quail Hollow opened in 1996 and in ldgriff07’s description of the track, he describes how the course is unlike any other in the area.

“For the price, you’re not going to find a much more interesting layout in this part of the country.  Up and down hills the likes of which you don’t normally see in Southern Mississippi or Louisiana.  I can think of at least six shots that play 1/2 club to a full club up or down a hill.  My buddies and I usually make the hour and a half drive up to play at least 2-3 times a year.  The conditions can be up and down at times, but recent new management has been working hard to improve the course.”

According to Quail Hollow Golf Course’s website, the track can be walked during the week for $20. Should you want to use a cart, then the rate is $38 during the week and $48 during the weekend.

Hidden Gem of the Day: Cape Arundel Golf Club in Kennebunkport, Maine

Today’s Hidden Gem of the Day was submitted by GolfWRX member gvogel, who takes us to Cape Arundel Golf Club in Kennebunkport, Maine. A Walter Travis designed course, Cape Arundel is a short links-style track, and gvogel has a good rationale as to why this place is well worth a visit.

“Cape Arundel in Kennebunkport ME is $50 before May 18 or after October 2. I would think that after October 2, this Walter Travis course would be a hidden gem. I haven’t played it, but many Presidents have. That’s good enough for me.”

Gvogel isn’t the only member who thinks this course is a hidden gem either, with fellow GolfWRX member runningdog stating

“The course is well worth the price of admission. It’s short but tight and tough.”

According to Cape Arundel Golf Club’s website, 18 holes from October-May will set you back $50, while to play after 4 pm ‘in-season’ it costs $55.
