Tweets of the Week: Die-hard Tiger Woods fan, Spieth and Reed’s awkward hug, and The Dude is spotted at Torrey Pines

Published

on

Justin Rose dominated at the Farmers Insurance Open, Bryson DeChambeau won his first tournament overseas by capturing the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, and the 2019 PGA Show came and went. In a busy last seven days, here are some things you may have missed, and some of the quirkier moments from the world of golf dished out in the Twittersphere over the past week.

The Big Lebowski

Adam Scott putting with the flagstick in the hole? The Dude Abides.

Lip Out Central

Day One at Torrey Pines saw some brutal hole rejections…

…while over in Dubai, Sergio Garcia can thank his lucky stars that this somehow stayed in the hole.

Spieth & Reed Hug It Out

Spieth called the decision to hug Reed prior to Round 3 of the Farmers Insurance Open “sarcasm.” Yeah, pretty sure the hatchet hasn’t exactly been buried just yet.

Tiger Fan

The return of Woods saw his die-hard fans come out in force.

$100k Mistake

This “penalty” (caddie lining up his player on a putt) on the final hole on Sunday dropped Haotong Li from T3 to T12 and cost the Chinese professional $100k. What do you think, GolfWRXers?

Rickie Flares It

Rickie Fowler made sure there was no confusion over where this tee shot had gone.

The Rise Of Honma

Justin Rose’s win over the weekend was as big a win for the Japanese Club manufacturer as it was for the Englishman. Any GolfWRXers a Honma convert yet?

Your suspicions confirmed: Brooks Koepka is in ESPN’s Body Issue

Published

on

Brooks Koepka took to social media on Wednesday to give us all a sneak peek of his appearance in ESPN’s Body Issue, which drops next month.

Earlier this year, Koepka disclosed that he lost 24 pounds inside five months, and it was rumored that the reason for the weight loss was for a photoshoot.

Criticism from many followed at the time, with Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee calling the move the “most reckless self-sabotage I have ever seen”. Two victories (including the PGA Championship) and a further four top-5 finishes later, the reason for the weight loss has now become clear.

On posting the image to his Instagram account, Koepka urged his followers to “go get a copy”. But at least one of his peers has already let the 29-year-old know that they wouldn’t be doing so, with Justin Thomas commenting

“Nah man … I’m good.”

Which one you taking, WRXers?

Some awesome shots of World Woods GC in Florida courtesy of Zoe.

Although World Woods is a bit of a drive from Tampa, it is well worth the trek north for a great round of golf! The whole area had a crazy amount of rain the past couple of weeks, but besides a few flooded bunkers you wouldn’t have known (at least the Pine Barrens course)- evidence of great course drainage. The whole round I had to remind myself I was in Florida and not North Carolina. The course is tight, tree lined, and so many waste bunkers that each golf cart comes with its own sand rake. Don’t be deterred by the description though. There are plenty of “redemption” holes which help to keep scores low. I only had time to play the Pine Barrens course, but look forward to coming back to the area to try the Rolling Oaks course. The great rack rate and the proximity of other great golf courses makes this a great location for a future FL golf trip (who’s in?!? ????).
