Forum Thread of the Day: “What’s the best budget wedge?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from bamagator, who asks fellow GolfWRX members what wedges they feel offer the best bang for your buck. As always, our members display their diverse taste, however, Maltby wedges prove to be a particularly popular choice.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • BIG STU: “Depending on the fine line of how you really want to do it and the budget Maltby is a good bet. Their stuff is as good of quality as any. If you are able to build your own clubs, you can do the shafts, and grips like you want them. You can also mix bounces and even style of heads within the set.”
  • Orlandogolfguru: “Rock bottom t7 for 69. Dicks – gg rtx 3 for 69. Or Maltby for like 39. I have all of them and can’t decide which I like best. They are all great, depends in the shape you like really. Can’t go wrong.”
  • Lefty431: “Don’t sleep on Wilson FG tour pmp wedges…  especially tour grind!  They seem to be readily available and super affordable!!”
  • kiw1982: “Wilson PMP. You are welcome.”

The best “budget” wedge is to find leftover new stock or very lightly used Cleveland RTX or RTX2 w edges. They can usually be had for 1/3 to 1/2 the price of the new model and are top notch. Now that that RTX 4 is out, you might even be able to find new RTX 3 wedges for a steal.

Wilson Harmonized. RockBottom $25 chrome, $30 black. $10 more to re-grip.

I play Wilson PMP wedges, but they are not ‘budget’ wedges. The price is right up there with the others, maybe $10 or so cheaper. Previously I had the Pinseeker wedges from Worldwide Golf shops. They were brand new at $40 and they worked very well. THAT’S a budget wedge.

Forum Thread of the Day: “Viktor Hovland signing with Ping”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from Dave D and it surrounds Viktor Hovland’s future as a Ping staffer. There has been plenty of chatter on our forums after Dave D shared this post from @golfnation_’s Instagram account.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • cvhookem3: “Seems like he was hinting at that with his equipment changes at the US Open. Good for him. He should be a lot of fun to watch.”
  • bladehunter: “Figured. He had near a full ping bag anyway. Love this kid. I really predict great things. Loads of raw tools.”
  • ImagineThat: “I think we’ll be seeing a lot of Viktor Hovland in the future…enough where his name will no longer appear strange. He seems to really be an upbeat guy with a nice personality, and he has a nice friendly smile to go with it.”

Golf Digest’s E. Michael Johnson reported Hovland is now a Ping man, writing he “signed a multi-year deal with Ping to play a minimum of 11 clubs, including driver and putter, along with a Ping staff bag and logo on the hat.”

8 interesting putter photos from Bettinardi’s Summer Social

Published

on

Bettinardi’s annual Summer Social was held at company HQ in Tinley Park, Illinois, last week. For RJB enthusiasts from as far away as London and Japan, it’s an opportunity to get together with like-minded individuals, shoot the breeze, oh, and check out some of the coolest putters in the world.

For those of us not lucky enough to join Bob, Sam, and the 60-plus collectors in attendance, Bettinardi was kind enough to furnish us with a few photos of the one-off and limited-edition flatsticks featured at the 10th edition of the gathering.
