Forum Thread of the Day: “Golf records unlikely to ever be broken”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from Roadking2003, who asks fellow GolfWRX members for the records in golf that they feel are untouchable. The thread contains plenty of debate and showcases some impressive records which you may not have previously known existed.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • TheLarch: “Tommy Armour’s twenty-three on the seventeenth hole of the 1927 U.S. Open”
  • MtlJeff: “Someone winning 12 straight tournaments in the modern era is basically impossible. That’s the one that is above the rest, even if some of the others are almost equally impossible “
  • Pent08: “I doubt anyone will ever get to 18 majors again. As for Nelson’s records, those are most certainly untouchable. Every sport has its crazy, seemingly untouchable records from long ago.”
  • stranger37: “What about Jack / Palmer 18 straight winning seasons? Obviously right now DJ has the best shot, I don’t think anyone else right now has 5. Still has 7 years to tie.”

Three from Tiger Woods: Consecutive cuts streak-142, consecutive rounds beating the field-89, and most weeks atop the world ranking-683. Like grezky’s 894 goals, Those 3 golf records will never be touched.

I think the cuts made can be done, if any of the big names can do the same kind of schedule as Cheater used to use whereby he would skip all the ones he didn’t like and play the minimum required events.
World ranking can be done. Whoever does it will just have play great for a few years lol
That rounds beating the field thing is a weird stat, it’s not exactly something the players would have in mind at all as a calculated achievement thing, so that will probably stand as a meaningless and useless stat, and he can have it.

Forum Thread of the Day: “2019 Accra TZ5 & TZ6 shafts”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day showcases the 2019 Accra TZ5 & TZ6 shafts. The shafts have been met with resounding approval from our members on our forum, who almost to a man find them a thing of beauty, and are eager to find out just when they will hit the shelves.

For more photos, make sure to check out the full forum thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, and you can join the discussion at the link below.

  • Ziggy16: “Yessssss love it. I had the chance to hit Accra shafts for the first time in 2018. I think they are some of the best feeling shafts I’ve ever swung. It’s between them and VA Composites, although I just saw Oban is now back in the game. Still, after all these years, the HB is still making a mark in my bag.”
  • KMo23: “Have the TZP Proto in the Driver, can’t wait to find a weight and launch profile for a fairway wood. Lots of tour guys switching to this!”
  • Oaks: “It’s the best feeling Shaft I can remember in a while.  Reminds me of the old ACCRA feel that they were known for.”
  • rpmspooner: “I had a chance to chat with Reid at Accra yesterday. They are extremely excited about the Tz5 and Tz6. I think they think this one is a home run. “Smoother mid section” was the response. If that is true, I don’t know who is going to compete with ACCRA this year. They already owned the smooth space in golf shafts.”

In-hand look: Justin Rose’s Axis1 prototype putter

Published

on

Fresh from becoming a member of Team Honma, Justin Rose is set to kick off his 2019, as it was reported in our WITB piece yesterday, with a custom Axis1 prototype putter in the bag.

Our guys have been on hand at this week’s Desert Classic to check out the Englishman’s new flat-stick, which Rose will hope will be a crucial weapon in defense of his World Number 1 ranking, and secured plenty of photos of the new addition.

The Englishman, who ranked 21st for strokes gained putting last season, used the TaylorMade TP Ardmore 2 putter during his ascent to the summit of the game in 2018. After the FedEx Cup champ’s equipment change, Rose will now look to continue his excellent form on the greens with the Axis 1 prototype.

While the putter move will surprise many, Rose is no stranger to Axis1 putters and has been spotted on our forums in the past both testing a flat-stick from the company back at the 2016 Players Championship, and gaming one at the Dell Technologies Championship in 2017.

For more photos and discussion of Justin Rose’s new Axis 1 Prototype putter, make sure to check out the forum thread here.

Forum Thread of the Day: “Do you need a 5-wood?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from hypergolf, who asks fellow GolfWRX members if it’s necessary to carry a 5-wood. As hypergolf explains, he’s only used his 5-wood once in his last six rounds, and along with asking fellow members if they feel it’s worth carrying a 5-wood, he asks for the best alternative options.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Chuck905: “I have been gaming a 17* U45 extended 1/2” with a Recoil 110 and would never go back to a 5-wood. I actually pull my 3-wood for an extra wedge because I can chase it just as far.”
  • philly2kuk: “I use a 5-wood because I’ve yet to find a 3-wood that goes further. Plus it’s much easier to elevate from the tight fairways I play off. Plus, removing the three gives me the extra wedge. As one lad I golf with says, the 3-wood is the devils club – it tempts you to go for it and then disappoints!”
  • Ryan3773: “Replaced my 5-wood (and hybrids) with a driving iron so now I have a driver, 3-wood, and DI. The flexibility it gives me is important around here where I play, as most courses in Wisconsin have trees lining the holes. I can hit punches with it underneath stuff, which is necessary because of how bad I am at getting off the tee. I would say replace it with the club you will use based on the courses you play. Lots of long rough? Probably a hybrid would be a better choice than a DI.”
  • BiggErn: “I found a 5-wood is better for me than a 3-wood. Not because it’s necessarily easier to hit but because it goes almost as far and I rarely have yardage that would require a 3-wood distance. It’s also probably a little easier to hit off the deck.”
