Gary Woodland spotted with Wilson Staff prototype irons ahead of Hero World Challenge
Update: Brendan Steele posted this photo of the prototype irons to his Instagram.
Gary Woodland has recently been using Titleist irons since his split with Callaway in 2015, but it looks as if the big-hitting American is set for a change this week at the Hero World Challenge.
According to Jonathan Wall at Golf.com, the three-time winner on the PGA Tour has been spotted in the Bahamas with a set of Wilson Staff prototype blades and an FG Tour V4 utility 2-iron. The irons feature KBS Tour C-Taper 130X shafts, which he had previously been using in his Titleist 718 MB irons.

Woodland has not signed any iron deals since 2015, so whether or not he is merely testing out the new clubs at the end of year event or he is ready to strike a deal with Wilson remains to be seen.

The fall season has already seen Charles Howell III make the switch from PXG to Titleist, and it has also given birth to strong rumors surrounding a potential move for Justin Rose to Honma. Now it appears as if Woodland is another man to keep an eye on concerning equipment changes as we begin the run-in to the new year.
You can find out what clubs Woodland puts into play when he tees off alongside Tony Finau at the Hero World Challenge on Thursday at 11:10 ET.

Equipment
Spotted: Nate Lashley’s Ping PLD “Wolverine” putter
Ping PLD putters have been a very common site on profesional tours. Pros seem to gravitate toward the PLD line’s custom options and precision milling. We have seen the PLD line expanded over the years, but we haven’t seen too many, if any, large mallets.
This week we spotted a PLD putter in Nate Lashley’s bag that has a similar look to the old Ping Wolverine head shape. This putter is a large mallet with the famous “claws” on the outside and oval center that housed the alignment aid.
Nick’s putter has the PLD logo on the back but also looks like it might have an insert installed on the face. It is hard to tell but at the address picture, it looks like the face is a lighter material than the rest of the putters. The putter is center-shafted and should be face-balanced with a high MOI for stability and forgiveness on mishits. The sole is completely milled and has no markings of name or technologies that might be present in the head. A single white site line is on the top of the putter for alignment.
Nick’s putter is finished off with a chrome steel shaft and a Super Stroke Zenergy Flatso 2.0 grip in black and white.

Having played the WS FG 62 the last 3 years or so I have been waiting for these to come out! Solid looking blades with a bit more weight in the toe. I will have to wait patiently to hit them.

Good looking iron. Too much for me but for whatever reason I like it. It would be nice to see Wilson Staff as a premium, successful iron again.

If there ready was any difference in performance between brands, no tour player would use a brand like Wilson. But the fact is, all the clubs perform the same ….
