Forum Thread of the Day: “GolfWRXers test out the new Wilson Cortex”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from StogiesNotBogies, who after getting the chance to try out the new Wilson Cortex, gave his feedback on the “Driver vs. Driver 2” winning club to fellow GolfWRX members. The club, according to StogiesNotBogies, lives up to the hype.

“I have to say, I’m really impressed. My swing speed with this driver was about five mph faster with the blue shaft configuration, And I was hitting it on average about 10 yards further than my G400. Overall, dispersion was better with the G400, but it was a very close competition. Wilson has impressed me with this one. Definitely worth trying out if any of you have a chance.”

StogiesNotBogies isn’t the only member on our forums to have tried out the new driver, with others praising the new addition from Wilson.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • RichieHunt: “I saw the Cortex today at the PGA SS.  The sole looks excellent, and it has that ‘shelf appeal.’  Putting it down it looks fine to me.  It does look a little smaller, like a 440cc head, but I could be wrong.  Sometimes certain clubs look bigger than others even though they are the same size head. It didn’t feel too light to me.  Of course, I play a Callaway Rogue SZ, and that head is only 188 grams.  It’s night and day better than the Triton.  I’m probably going to end up getting a G400 Max pretty soon, but had this been around when I was looking for a low spinning head last March, I’d definitely consider it.”
  • hd.softail: “Hit the Cortex this weekend. This driver is the real deal in every way except the price. And I only say that because Wilson is the name on the driver and like others have mentioned, resale is not going to be that of the other big dogs. That said, if you did a blind test, the Cortex would hang with any of them.”
  • Gunner22: “Hit it today. Solid but nothing exceedingly impressive. For sure better than their offering last year. I don’t think it is close to the G400 Max or the new T3. Regardless, felt solid and not gimmicky.”

For trying 4 players (between 10 and 15 handicap), the Driver CORTEX 9 ° this weekend on 36 holes with the Ping G400 Max 10.5 °, Callaway Epic 10 ° and Taylormade 2 9.5 ° , we have a very positive feedback from Wilson’s CORTEX Driver (It’s winter at home and the grounds are greasy and muddy).
In terms of distance, the Cortex was like the others to a little longer, but the most impressive was the tolerance of the CORTEX driver, almost no dispersion to the right and very little left. While with our usual drivers, this represented our most common problems. Note that the CORTEX shaft was 1/2 inch shorter than the other 4 drivers. With the Fujikura Atmos TOUR 6 Stiff shaft, the CORTEX Driver seems to be very well balanced and you get a real feeling that the club head increases the speed of the ball as it exits. The 3 out of 4 drivers were in NEUTRAL position for their settings, since the G400 Max does not allow this kind of adjustment. Of the 36 holes, the CORTEX Driver was played 75 times over 100 times at the practice.
We leave this testimony without any commercial purpose, just to inform that Wilson’s CORTEX 9 ° Driver is easy to play, very efficient and very tolerant with the Fujikura Atmos Tour 6 Stiff Shaft. We leave this testimony without any commercial purpose, just to inform that the Wilson CORTEX 9 ° Driver is easy to play, very powerful and very tolerant with the Fujikura Atmos Tour 6 Stiff Shaft. We have enough distance to the Drive and we want to get the tolerance to hit more fairways to lower our handicap below 10. Of the 4 players present in this test of “amateur player”, 2 have ordered this driver immediately in its configuration of the day. Good golf to you and happy new year 2019.

Got to see the driver in person the other day but didn’t test it due to the shaft offerings at my local golf store. Looks wise to me it is great. Sort of a mix of the Titleist D3, Rogue and or M series in my opinion. When I get a shaft worth testing for me I will give it a go. I think the price tag is going to turn people away due to Wilson’s reputation

Funny how much coverage Wilson is getting on this driver….little money being spent of that $499 price tag…also a lot of sits that are so called sits that cannot be bought are saying good things about this “Made for TV driver” If Wilson was so sure they got the “Made For TV” driver right this time maybe they should by back the last one that was a total waste…

“Cortex” is also the trademark name used on Babolat tennis rackets. It’s a shock absorbing feature in the racket handle. Maybe Wilson have taken the same name to suggest the driver is good for off-center hits.

Is it true the women’s version is named “Cotex”?

The adjustable toe weight is labelled “NEUTRAL”, while heel weight is “DRAW”. The sliding weight is presumably for CofG adjustment. Where is the “FADE” adjustment weight and what does “NEUTRAL” mean? … Not that it matters as long as it “FEELS” good.

Don’t worry your little head if you don’t understand how the driver works :-p

From the Forums: How are you liking TaylorMade’s Qi10 fairway woods?

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing TaylorMade’s new Qi10 fairway woods. WRXer ‘ace036’ plans on testing them in the next few weeks, saying: “from how they look from address and frame the ball is much more appealing to my eye versus my current Paradym fairway woods.” And our members have been sharing their positive feedback in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Edwardsr: “I got fit into the Qi10 core model with Ventus TR Black 8X and it’s absolutely amazing for me.During the fitting with my 12-15 swings with it, it was the most efficient combo I’ve ever tested, tons of 1.48 smash and 3 or 4 1.49 smash (which I don’t think I’ve ever gotten on 3 wood on a launch monitor).”
  • MiloMalt: “No complaints and so far only high praise for my Qi10 Tour 3 and 5 wood. I’m getting great numbers and a nice penetrating ball flight with great height whereas with my old TSi2 4 wood it was spinny and ballooning and short because of that.”
  • courcy75: “The Qi10 Tour 3 wood I just put in play has been outstanding for me. Finally found something I like as much as the 07 burner tp.”
