Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls to make Tour debut this week

Published

on

Earlier this month on the video version of the Two Guys Talking Golf podcast, Tursky and Knudson reviewed Titleist’s “2019 Proto” golf balls, which you can watch here. Now at this week’s The Shriners Hospitals for Children, the new Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls will make their Tour debut.

On Monday, players were given a chance to practice with the final version before many put the ball in tournament play this Thursday. Titleist’s Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls have been the most popular golf balls on Tour for some time, and at last year’s John Deere Classic 126 of the 156 players in the field (81 percent) played a Pro V1 or Pro V1x ball.

The Las Vegas stop has become customary with the introduction of the new prototype additions from Titleist, ever since they introduced the original Pro V1 prototype at TPC Summerlin in 2000.

Many of our members here at GolfWRX have been discussing the new addition from Titleist, and according to some who claim to have been able to test them out, the results have been impressive. You can see what our members have been saying and join in on the discussion here.

The news that Titlelist’s Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls will make their tournament debut this week at TPC Summerlin comes off the back of speculation regarding their new 2018 “CNCPT 02” irons, which we covered here yesterday.

Despite the ProV1 and ProV1x balls making their tournament debut this week, they are not expected to be available to the public until late January.

I’ve become a huge fan of Snell and Vice golf balls. When comparing similar models to the Pro-V1 and Pro-V1X, I just cannot justify the Pro-V series. If you like them, great, but if you want alternatives, they’re available.

If they plan to keep the $50 price point, these better be a huge improvement on the current gen. Pretty tough to consider paying that much premium for a brand name when there are better/cheaper options out there.

“I hit one of these prototype balls, and it went over that there mountain!” – Uncle Rico

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
  • driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300.  The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length.  I am playing a Ventus Red 70.   I play 70 grams in my fairways.  I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee.  When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time.  So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck.  The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
  • JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”
