Forum Thread of the Day: “Who has the smoothest swing you’ve ever seen in person?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from Hankshank, as he asks fellow GolfWRX members what the smoothest swing they have seen live is. Plenty of players get a mention, and for different reasons, but for our members, Ernie Els and Fred Couples are quite dominant in this category.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Johnnypenso: “I saw Fred Couples at the Canadian Open back when he first came on tour.  His real swing looked more like his practice swing.  I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how he got such distance out of what looked like a slow and smooth swing.  Looks are deceiving I guess.”
  • playa: “Not a huge name golfer but John Senden has the most relaxed, rhythmic swing you would ever see. Like the Bruce Lee analogy of letting your body be water, Senden becomes the golf swing.”
  • 95124hacker: “Go to an LPGA event and watch petite young women drive the ball 250 effortlessly.”
  • 15th Club: “With all due respect, I think that anyone on this board now, who is barely old enough to have seen Sam Snead play at a time when he was not yet well into his sixties; that is the one, pure, shining example.”

Underrated, but, people always wanted to swing like him because he was very consistent, is Bruce Lietzke

Sam Snead. He could reach back and really bomb it and you didn’t see the effort. This all with older equipment. Players had to swing smooth to hit that smaller sweet spot. Thanks for putting up this question.

Take a look at Wild Bill Mehlhorn. Google . ““lLost Swings Biill Mehlhorn”. See Hogan’s quote about this player! All joints bent , relaxed. As they should be!

Seve Ballesteros could swing as smooth as anybody IMO.

Yeah because he wasn’t too concerned about where the swing directed the ball, he was more concerned about spraying it all over the map with that unique and strange action of his lol

Forum Thread of the Day: “Best value for a used driver?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from rkodavey who is on the hunt for a new driver. With a budget of $200, Rkodavey is looking for a used driver from the last three or four years, and our members have been sharing their advice on where his money should go in our forums.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • gvogel: “So, so many to choose from. I would start with a Ping G400.”
  • Hertsjoatmon: “There is probably a best value in each price bracket. I found the great big bertha to be good value when I started to take golf more seriously and picked one up for a 100 about 2 years back. Plus as it’s adjustable, it’s easy to pick up extra weights and shafts to experiment with. I recently upgraded to the g400 max a few weeks ago for 200 (new) as it’s generally regarded as one of the most forgiving drivers ever made. I’ve yet to mess with the settings yet but have a heavier weight on order so that I can shorten it an inch.”
  • propredicr: “2016 TM M2. Just went through driver fitting on Trackman. Tried M5, M6, TS3, Epic Flash. M2 same shaft, just as long as M6, slightly longer than M5. Epic was next and disappointingly; the TS3 was a short knocker. Balls speeds on the newer heads were slightly higher, with slower swing speeds compared with M2. Although, distance between the M2 and M6 was negligible. Accuracy was roughly the same across the board. Bad swing=bad ball. Feel is subjective, but, like the feel of the M2, best. Guess I’ll stick with it until the head caves in.”
  • fsusmith: “Cobra LTD Pro with a bimatrix tour prototype shaft.”

Forum Thread of the Day: “Main reason to play blades?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from randywall and delves into discovering why those who play blades choose to do so. With many WRXers currently playing blades, our members explain just what they find advantageous about blade irons, with a variety of reasons mentioned in the thread.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • MadGolfer76: “For me, they are just more maneuverable. Better distance control too.”
  • RobotDoctor: “I game a set of ’99 Ben Hogan Apex blades (3-PW). Not only do these blades look outstanding, but they are relatively easy to hit. These are definitely not game improvement clubs but are not clubs reserved for a tour quality swing. I prefer blades because of great feel and the ability to better control the shape and trajectory of shots. The ’99 Ben Hogan Apex blades are among the best blades I have ever played, and I have gamed a lot of different blades from several manufacturers.”
  • GolfManCollin: “The feel. Many have said that if more people played blades there would be a lot more good ball strikers.”
  • mizuno player: “For me a few reasons. They spin rate is where I need it. I don’t always release the club. The smaller size of blade helps that. Less offset helps with my big left miss. I will be buying the new MP20 MMC. See how that goes.”
  • Redjeep83: “Blades have a nice clean look and turf interaction, pretty consistent between different blades. It’s the old saying a blade is a blade, they aren’t really that different. I haven’t played a blade set for years, and I kind of want to go back, but I’ve been spoiled by players irons, so it’s been a hard choice to switch. I don’t want to lose distance and I think I probably would overall. I have a 6 iron blade in my bag that I hit on the range every once in a while with my other clubs and I find that I tend to gravitate back towards my players 6 iron instead because it gives a little more confidence and stronger flight.”
  • Warrior42111: “For the average Joe, blades are like a supermodel; fun to look at, but you have no chance in real life.”
