Forum Thread of the Day: “Who has the smoothest swing you’ve ever seen in person?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from Hankshank, as he asks fellow GolfWRX members what the smoothest swing they have seen live is. Plenty of players get a mention, and for different reasons, but for our members, Ernie Els and Fred Couples are quite dominant in this category.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Johnnypenso: “I saw Fred Couples at the Canadian Open back when he first came on tour.  His real swing looked more like his practice swing.  I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how he got such distance out of what looked like a slow and smooth swing.  Looks are deceiving I guess.”
  • playa: “Not a huge name golfer but John Senden has the most relaxed, rhythmic swing you would ever see. Like the Bruce Lee analogy of letting your body be water, Senden becomes the golf swing.”
  • 95124hacker: “Go to an LPGA event and watch petite young women drive the ball 250 effortlessly.”
  • 15th Club: “With all due respect, I think that anyone on this board now, who is barely old enough to have seen Sam Snead play at a time when he was not yet well into his sixties; that is the one, pure, shining example.”

Underrated, but, people always wanted to swing like him because he was very consistent, is Bruce Lietzke

Sam Snead. He could reach back and really bomb it and you didn’t see the effort. This all with older equipment. Players had to swing smooth to hit that smaller sweet spot. Thanks for putting up this question.

Take a look at Wild Bill Mehlhorn. Google . ““lLost Swings Biill Mehlhorn”. See Hogan’s quote about this player! All joints bent , relaxed. As they should be!

Seve Ballesteros could swing as smooth as anybody IMO.

Yeah because he wasn’t too concerned about where the swing directed the ball, he was more concerned about spraying it all over the map with that unique and strange action of his lol

  • wam78: “Love that black inovai! Really wish I could get one with fly mill face. The shape is so nice I’m seriously contemplating giving the retail one a shot. Never used the fit face, so I’m a little worried with how soft it feels with distance control.”
  • nova6868: “Well, as usual, the Bettinardi Tour bag has incredible stuff. I also like the horizontal/perpendicular ball-width alignment aid and wish we could see that at retail eventually.”
  • AdamStoutjesdyk: “Yessss more horizontal alignment aids!!!”

Today from the Forums we shine the light on an array of new Odyssey/Toulon putters featured at this week’s Honda Classic. The flat-sticks have gotten quite a reaction from WRXers, who have been particularly impressed with the company’s Las Vegas long slant neck creation.

  • Golfingfanatic: “LV with the long slant is so sick!”
  • My2Dogs: “That 10 with the 3 site lines is very interesting. Especially if the Triple Track is too busy for some. Also that double line on that Toulon Las Vegas. Great choices this year.”

Today from the Forums: “New golf shoes for 2020”

Published

@footjoyeurope

Today from the Forums, we take a look at golf shoes currently on the market. MJBGolf is on the hunt for a new pair of shoes for 2020, and though loyal to his favorite brand FootJoy, he is willing to listen to new suggestions. Our members have their say.

Here are a few posts from the thread but make sure to check out the entire discussion and let us know what you think on the matter at the link below.

  • acemandrake: “Two shoes I’m trying this spring: Classic style – G/FORE Gallivanter……….Athletic style – FootJoy Golf Sneaker.”
  • wods991: “I like those FootJoy athletics shoe in black.”
  • 10&8: “I’ve worn FJ for years, but this year I’m branching out and trying something different. Picked up a pair of G/Fore Gallivanters and Puma Ignite NXT. Both are really comfortable, and we’ll see if they hold up throughout the season.”
  • meb7: “Honestly, the Under Armour HOVRs are unreal. Extremely comfortable, zero break-in time and the waterproofing is awesome. I carry and play early in the morning when the course is still pretty wet, and these have been great. Highly recommended.”
  • klbcec: “Got a pair of the Tour X as a tee gift at a member guest. I have been an Ecco guy for five years due to the comfort of Eccos. I stopped wearing Footjoy because they just weren’t comfortable. The Tour X is as comfortable a golf shoe as I have ever worn. Really impressed with the Tour X. And the spikes they use don’t tear up greens like others.”
  • cooleary: “Adidas Ultraboost Tour Knit 360 are very comfortable and have solid breath-ability.”
