      Same. A Callaway staffer using TM driver is not something they’ll be happy with given their obsession with being the number one driver in golf. Hopefully Xander tells them to deal with it.

      Maybe Callaway will be trying to convince him to change, seeing how he was dead last in fairways hit the first three days. Lol. Imagine if was just middle of pack or near the top of fairways hit this week, he would have run away with the tournament.

Spotted: Fujikura Ventus shafts

Photos of a new shaft offering from Fujikura have appeared in the GolfWRX Forums. We first spotted the Fujikura Ventus on Tour at the Safeway Open last year, and it went into two players’ bags that week.

Since then, the shaft has been showing up on Tour more frequently, and it is expected to come to retail some time early this year.

The Ventus is a Tour inspired design — meaning low torque and a stiff tip section. This profile creates a mid-launching shaft that also offers low spin.

The use of extremely stiff 70-ton pitch fiber throughout the full length of the shaft, creates more center face contact by reducing twisting at impact. The 70-ton fiber is laid at 45 degrees in the bias layer for tighter dispersion and consistency.

Fujikura itself tweeted the following evidence of continued player testing of the shaft.

Spotted: Project X HZRDUS Yellow Smoke shafts

A Project X HZRDUS Yellow Smoke shaft has surfaced in the GolfWRX Forums.

To expand its popular HZRDUS line, it looks like Project X is testing the new Smoke series to include the Yellow Profile. If you recall, the Yellow was the second profile added to the original HZRDUS line which has the key features of

  • Higher balance point to allow for both longer lengths, or heads with a higher than standard mass.
  • Slightly softened profile for smoother tempo players, and increased feel

The pictures also show off a new “Small Batch” logo that seems to be a play on the very popular original Hand Crafted. This would appear related to the moving of the Hand Crafted production line out of the U.S. manufacturing facility in San Diego owing to the growing demand in the market for the shafts in both the aftermarket and with OEMs. These “Small Batch” shafts could mean a return to the U.S. production facility for Project X.

Bringing the Yellow Profile into the Smoke line would add a softer higher balance point (counter balanced) profile to a line up already designed to have increased feel. From a fitting standpoint, this could be another win-win shaft, perfect for the slightly less aggressive players looking to play a longer driver without sacrificing feel.
