Joe LaCava, Tiger Woods’ caddie, paid a heckler $25 to leave at the WGC-Bridgestone

Published

on

While Steve Williams would likely have taken a different route, Tiger Woods’ current caddie admitted to bribing a fan to leave his boss alone.

LaCava called into ESPN’s “Golic and Wingo” and told a tale of paying of a heckler at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

LaCava said the man heckled Woods throughout his final round at the Bridgestone, and on the 14th hole, LaCava interceded, telling the man to check out action elsewhere on the course. Interestingly/absurdly, the man said he would be happy to, provided LaCava reimburse him for his ticket.

Here’s the full transcript c/o ESPN.

Mike Golic: “Did you have any issues with the people at Bellerive?”

Joe LaCava: “Not at all, and you hit it right on the head, 99 percent of the guys and women are behind Tiger, pushing for Tiger. They want to see good golf in general they’re not anti-the-other-guys, but they’re certainly rooting for Tiger more so than the other guys. But, funny you guys ask that question. The week before in Akron, I had a little incident with a guy who was harassing my guy on the 14th hole at Akron the last day outside the ropes, roughening him up pretty good. And I said, hey listen bud, why do you gotta go there? Everyone’s having a good time, everyone’s pulling for Tiger. You don’t like the guy that’s one thing, but you don’t to be yelling at my guy, screaming negative stuff like that. And I said at the end of the day, if you affect him, his performance, it effects my bottomline. So he calls me a couple names and I go back and forth with the guy, and I say why don’t you just leave. And he says well if you give me $25 for the ticket that I bought today I’ll leave. And I said here you go, here’s $25.”

Mike: “Did he leave?”

Joe: “So I whip out $25 and he starts to go down the 14th fairway toward the green. I say look pal $25 is $25 you gotta head the other way. So he starts to head the other way, he goes 20 yards down the line, then he calls me a certain other, a swear word. So I run 20 yards back the other way and I’m going face to face with this guy. And all the sudden Tiger’s looking for a yardage, and I’m in it with this guy 20 yards down the line. So some cop has to come in, push this guy outta the way, and take him outta the tournament.

Mike: “So what did Tiger say when you came back to give him the yardage?”

Joe: “Well that’s a great question. We were so far to the right of the trees, and he was on his third shot believe it or not, we were still 150 yards away from the green, and he didn’t really know what happened. He heard the commotion, he heard the guy yelling at him, so we talked about it after the fact, but he didn’t really know how it developed. And he says I was wondering what happened, and he goes normally it wouldn’t that long to get a yardage. I said well a little incident down the road. He didn’t have a problem with it, and actually I gotta standing ovation for kicking the guy outta there.

Security probably should have happened sooner when LaCava was $25 richer.

That was stupid, now all the ignorant fools will be lined up looking for a few bucks to shut up. That is why he has a “Security Squad” walking with him, that is to get rid of the ignorant SOBs that can’t keep their stupid mouths shut. Bad move.

All slobs should be removed. If it were a movie theater or restaurant, same thing would happen.

LaCava is one good caddie. Keeping the drama and distractions under control.

There needs to be much less tolerance of fan heckling. They should not only be removed from a tournament but also fined. This needs to happen sooner rather than later. I think whoever is running things is dropping the ball on this issue.

Chronic heckling is “disturbing the peace.” For dealing with chronic hecklers, the marshall with the small radio can call the guys with the handcuffs.

Bribing hecklers sets a bad precedent.

I agree. The hecklers can affect play and outcomes. The hecklers have been watching Happy Gilmore too much.

Tiger needs to have a few “enforcers” following him around in the crowd. Kinda like the fella in Happy Gilmore. Couple unneeded outbursts and they would just get a quick tap on the shoulder from someone that makes a NFL linebacker look like a small child. Some people these days just need thrown to the ground by their throat. This heckler looks like one of those people.

Why should people who aren’t actually interfering with shots be removed from a tournament

The heckler looks like the kind of guy you see at your local muni blaring music and slamming a six pack per 9. I am sure glad we grew the game.

Who is “we”? You did nothing. And “the game” hasn’t grown. It is in a tailspin. Has been for close to 20 years. Several hundred fewer golf courses open than in the 90s.

If you’re out there playing, contributing to the golfing community local or online, you’re helping grow the game. If you jump in to make snide comments, you’re likely not.

Sigh. I do believe these golfwrx stories draw the most foolhardy and meaninglessly self-righteous comments on the internet. I wonder what draws these tiresome dots to the site?

Like having a little music is a bad thing. You’re probably the kind of guy playing a 5 hour round of golf and posting up a solid 89 with three mulligans.

And who is “we” you and your bro Lacav?

GolfWRX Spotlight: Evalu18 – ‘Evaluating golf architecturally’

Published

on

When it comes to course directories with an emphasis on past and present architects, Evalu18 is likely to be one of the most in-depth—for UK and Ireland golf courses—you’re ever likely to see—highlighted by the site’s wealth of information and user-friendly navigation.

Jasper Miners, a Canadian now living in London, is the brains behind Evalu18. He explained to me how the concept began as a map with courses that he wanted to play based on his extensive research, which was then added to based on the recommendations of others. Frustrated by the lack of an easy way to access the information in a modern format – he created Evalu18.

“After some time I shared a map with a good friend, an American from New York whom I worked with who was a very keen golfer. The map and my notes allowed him to find great golf wherever he was and to plan a trip easily.

Everyone has heard of the Open rota courses and perhaps some of the courses which are intimately linked to the history and origins of the game. However, for every well-known course, there are 10-20 that may be just as good that we and even locals may never have even heard of. Evalu18 exists for those – sound golf is the criteria for being listed.” – Jasper Miners, founder of Evalu18

Beginning with the site’s interactive map the depth of research and information available is striking. The filter option, which has been crafted down to the minutest detail, puts the directory in a league of its own and allows golfers to plan for the perfect day out or golfing trip.

Whether you are looking for a particular golf course from a specific architect or consultant, to whether the track is dog-friendly. or is suited to trolleys or buggies, Evalu18 has you covered. The directory allows you to filter courses based on the level of difficulty their walkability is, what is available practice facility wise or if you’re looking for a course which has ever hosted a specific event as well as much more.

Another cool feature of Evalu18 is its “Collections” element. With taste and preference regarding golf courses being so vast amongst golfers, the site doesn’t separate courses by ranking but lets you home in on that ideal course in a simple fashion.

The Collection section showcases courses that are grouped according to identifiable characteristics. Featured in this area of the site are nine-hole courses, truly unique courses, bunker-less courses, hidden gems, bang-for-your-buck courses as well as so many more cool categories.

Each course on the site contains information that a typical guest would want to know, with plenty also featuring full reviews written to enhance the experience.

Additionally, a “discover” section of the site allows golf-enthusiasts to explore golf course architecture books, magazines and pertinent works with the company confidently claiming to have “the most thorough collection of GCA book reviews anywhere online.”

As for what’s next for Evalu18, international growth along with a unique travel guide, says Jasper

“We are working on improvements to the site and a unique travel section that will have substantial guides. Every course can also have included recommended accommodation, food and drink venues and tourist sites. We engage with the clubs and have them help us tell their story – what makes them unique and worth your time, attention and $.”

Whether you are already in the UK and Ireland or planning that dream golfing trip abroad, Evalu18 is a site that is a must for any golfer to check out. Once you do, it will likely place you on your ideal course—which before you may not have even known existed.

Check out Evalu18 here.

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.? ? We all deserve a chance to "getaway" from the daily grind. And so, my favorite place to escape to has always been Kauai. Oh, the garden island. Full of love, rainbows, epic views and good golf! I've been visiting this island for many years and it's starting to kind of feel like home. Truth be known I'm not there enough, but when I do visit it's completely refreshing. ? ? Kukui'ula, pictured here in the pano (swipe ??), is a part of that refresh that I look forward to every time. Tom Weiskopf designed the challenging 18-hole Kaua'i golf course that Golf Digest called “One of the Best Courses in Hawaii.” The challenging 14th hole, sometimes described as “a quintessential Weiskopf par 4,” has become legendary—and not just because of its dramatic ocean views, or sightings of spinner dolphins and humpback whales.? ? ????@channingbenjaminphotography @kukuiula ? ? . . . . . #alohafriday #aloha #kukuiula #picoftheday #hawaiilife #kauai #kauaiswhy #beautifuldestinations #hawaiigolf #hawaiistagram #instagoodmyphoto #instalike #whyilovethisgame #instagolf #golfing #thisisgolf #pga #golfcoursephotos #golfaddict #golfwrx #golf #golfphotography #beautifulgolfcourses #golfdigest #golfcourses #golfcoursearchitecture

It’s been a few years since I had the opportunity to have a putter on the club count at a PGA-level event. @hughroyergolf fixed that with his playing into the Champions Tour Cologuard Classic this weekend! Congrats to HRIII for his fighting and tenacity. For those who don’t know, Hugh was out of action for over a year, fighting Basal Cell skin cancer that nearly put him down. The orange dots on the flange of this putter are there to make sure that the fight is never forgotten. Watch for HRIII this weekend as he reminds his peers that he still has game. #hriii #mannmade #pgachampions #5goldPINGputters #mannkrafted #customputter #milledputter #handmade #fightthefight #basalcellsurvivor #doingwhatilove #doingitoldschool #golfwrx #golfdigest #golfersjournal #sunridgecanyongolf
