SPOTTED: Bubba Watson is gaming new Ping Glide Forged wedges
Purveyors of cast irons and wedges that the company is, it’s surprising to see a forged offering from Ping. Indeed, it hasn’t happened since, what, Ping Anser irons in 2012?
Yet that’s exactly what PGATour.com’s Jonathan Wall spotted (and tweeted about) in Bubba Watson’s bag at The Memorial Tournament.
Behold: Pint Glide Forged wedges.
Something new this week for Bubba Watson: @PingTour Glide Forged wedges. Started working with them for the first time on Monday. pic.twitter.com/UBS2gbpwyj
— Jonathan Wall (@jonathanrwall) May 31, 2018
Per Wall’s tweet, Watson is continuing his traditional 52-56-60 wedge setup.
Watson has historically played a cast wedge, most recently gaming three Ping Glide 2.0 wedges (52-12 SS, 56-12 SS, 60-06 TS).
Interestingly, if the bounce numbers on Watson’s new wedges are correct, he’s playing a different amount of bounce in all three wedges. (switching from 52-12, 56-12, 60-06 to 52-10, 56-10, 60-08)
It’s unclear whether Watson is continuing to play True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 shafts in the clubs.

Spotted: Nate Lashley’s Ping PLD “Wolverine” putter
Ping PLD putters have been a very common site on profesional tours. Pros seem to gravitate toward the PLD line’s custom options and precision milling. We have seen the PLD line expanded over the years, but we haven’t seen too many, if any, large mallets.
This week we spotted a PLD putter in Nate Lashley’s bag that has a similar look to the old Ping Wolverine head shape. This putter is a large mallet with the famous “claws” on the outside and oval center that housed the alignment aid.
Nick’s putter has the PLD logo on the back but also looks like it might have an insert installed on the face. It is hard to tell but at the address picture, it looks like the face is a lighter material than the rest of the putters. The putter is center-shafted and should be face-balanced with a high MOI for stability and forgiveness on mishits. The sole is completely milled and has no markings of name or technologies that might be present in the head. A single white site line is on the top of the putter for alignment.
Nick’s putter is finished off with a chrome steel shaft and a Super Stroke Zenergy Flatso 2.0 grip in black and white.

I think the Glide 2.0 have great feel off the ball, just a little bit light – it’s possible the forging will give it a more dense, solid feel. Let’s hope.

These will go with the new i500’s. They’ll be going for total dedication from a lot of us. I can see a lot of bags going with 11 or 12 Ping clubs soon. These look original and awesome. I’ll definitely be buying.

Wunder if they are just ‘coin’ forged on the surface only… and plain ol’ cast iron on the inside… golfers are gullible …. 😮

WTF Ping.
Why do this all the time, telling people they couldn’t tell the difference between forged and cast carbon. And they go do this.

Mehbe it’s cause they can bend the forged hosel more than the double-annealed cast iron hosel…. particularly for the wedges… ya think?!!
