Steph Curry: PGA Tour tournament host?

Published

on

It’s a trope at this point: Stephen Curry and golf go together like, well, Stephen Curry and mile-deep three-pointers.

Reportedly, the Golden State Warriors’ point guard is in talks to host a PGA Tour event next year.

Per ESPN’s Darren Rovell

“ESPN has learned that Curry’s representatives at Octagon are working with the PGA Tour to finalize a deal that allows the agency to work with the Tour to sell marketing and sponsorship deals for a tournament that will be played in the fall of 2019. Sources told ESPN calls were being made to prospective sponsors of the event.”

With respect to the particular event, suspicions are Curry would host the Safeway Open, as it’s the only one of the PGA Tour’s fall events in Curry’s neck of the woods.

Both Octagon and PGA Tour reps confirmed the discussions are taking place.

The expectation is the Curry Family Foundation would be the charitable beneficiary of the tournament.

As Curry and his Golden State Warriors are currently tied with Houston 1-1 in the Western Conference Finals, it’s not surprising he and his reps are trying to keep the focus on basketball.

Curry isn’t expected to play in the tournament.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Tony Finau’s 206mph ball speed

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Tony Finau’s recent 206mph ball speed (and 383-yard carry) which he recorded in practice and uploaded to his Instagram page. Our members have been commenting on the ease of the swing from Finau which produced the numbers and whether he could now challenge Bryson DeChambeau as the tour’s longest hitter.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • extrastiff: “Yea that’s pretty nuts. Craziest part is, looks like my normal swing, and looks like a normal length club. So much balance. If he actually swung out of his shoes with super low loft, he would be carrying that no problem. Redonkulous.”
  • iBanesto: “Looked pretty easy for Finau!”
  • QuigleyDU: “I do think that Bryson could create a bit of a PGA distance arms race. This week could be pretty telling. He has done well on some by PGA standard cupcake courses. This one is different. Accuracy is much more important, and misses will be more penal.”
  • MUNIGRIT: “Tiger has now said Finau and Woodland are the longest guys on tour. Bryson is definitely the longest and straightest. Distance is only part of the problem. It’s been about 90 to 98 degrees in Utah the last week. He looked like he was in SLC Valley for that tee shot which is 4300 ft elevation and when you figure the actual Density altitude it was 7500 feet. That contributes hugely to the carry distance.”
