TaylorMade is finally bringing the P790 UDI to retail

Published

on

We’ve spotted the TaylorMade P790 UDI at the 2018 PGA Show, and also in the bags of the likes of Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, and Jason Day. Today, TaylorMade announced you’ll be able to have the P790 UDI in your bag as well: it’s coming to retail.

The P790 has been popular with golfers looking for a distance-boosting forged iron. TaylorMade says the clubs have been the most successful players-distance irons in company history.

The P790 UDI is made from an 8620 carbon steel body combined with high-strength forged 4140 carbon steel with a wrapped-face construction in a hollow body design. The P790 UDI’s hollow body is filled with TaylorMade’s SpeedFoam, which both boosts ball speed and enhances sound and feel.

TaylorMade brings re-engineered Inverted Cone Technology optimized for the slightly smaller face area to the UDI, as well as internal metal-injection-molded (MIM) tungsten weighting for precise CG placement and higher moment of inertia (MOI).

Additional specifications:

  • Loft: 17°
  • Lie: 60°
  • Offset: 3.2mm
  • Length: 40” (steel 39.25”)
  • Swingweight: D2

The P790 UDI is available at retail starting tomorrow, 3/30, for $219 USD. Project X’s HZRDUS Black shaft (85g) and a Golf Pride TV 360 grip are standard. The club will also be available for custom build with a range of steel and graphite options.

I have heard from people that this thing is really good and the ones that have hit it love it. I also get a laugh out of the ones that are negative and really have no clue.

Just the 17-degree? I know it’s a small market, can’t expect too many options. But I would think most amateurs would be looking at something in the 19-20 degree range.

Looks like you can get it bent 2 degrees weak as well as change the lie angle.

I got the 3 iron p790 custom ordered and bent.to 18°, and it was a LOT cheaper. Still very forgiving and a stalwart in my bag now!

That’s what I did too, and then had the rest of the irons gapped in 4 degree increments.

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
  • driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300.  The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length.  I am playing a Ventus Red 70.   I play 70 grams in my fairways.  I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee.  When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time.  So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck.  The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
  • JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”
