The Newport Scotty is only gold plated, because if it was pure gold it would cost like $1300 per ounce and that’s only for the gold! $17,000 for all gold!!

“Spank It” on a wedge? Dumb enough to be a PXG buyer.

Yea, spank it with a wedge. That’s rich. In other news, golf is still dying a slow retardation death because of comments like “spank it” on a wedge.

HAHA, I love this comment. I would definitely feel the need to throat punch myself with that wedge stamping.

Parents in Montana can’t watch their children golf, and nobody is happy about it

Published

on

In Montana, as you may have heard from an irritated friend at some point during the past month, spectators cannot watch high school golf.

Nick Petraccione of KBZK originally did a deep dive into the following passage from the Montana State High School Association Rulebook in November.

“No spectators/fans are allowed on the course except for certain locations as designated by the tournament manager and club professional.”

Petraccione found the “designated” areas are generally the first tee box and the 18th green, but at some courses, there are no such area. Needless to say, as the KBZK report has been disseminated through the golf mediasphere over the past month, most are not in favor of the MSHA’s position.

Before drilling down into some of the dissent, it’s worth considering the logic of spectator restrictions. Per Petraccione:

“It comes down to a few factors: mainly that golf courses and tournament managers are involved in opening those spaces, not the MSHA. Other factors include parents being unruly, disrupting play, spectator safety, and illegally coaching players on the course.”

Fair enough. But the other side of the coin, beyond parents merely wanting to watch their kids play, is that the MSHA could be “trampling on civil rights,” per James Greenbaum, an attorney KBZK spoke with.

“The highest court has stated many times that difficulty of enforcement is no excuse for trampling on civil rights. They are discriminating against children and parents in an outrageous manner in violation of the federal and state constitution. That is a fundamental right, for their parent to bond with their child and encourage them in something as innocent as a sporting event. … How could you deny a parent that right?”

The outrage, as mentioned, is abundant. Major-winner Shaun Micheel tweeted his disbelief. Micheel also suggested the policy handicaps potential college recruits.

“Scores are only part of the bigger picture…That being the intangibles like attitude, etiquette and temperament. How does the player handle adversity? All of the extra things that are part of competing. Coaches aren’t able to evaluate those things by looking at just the final score.”

Chris Kelley, a parent of a high school golfer in Montana, created a Change.org petition aimed at bringing awareness and ultimately changing the rule. Dylan Dethier at Golf.com filed a look at some of the petition’s signees, which include Xander Schauffele’s father and a handful of coaches. You can view the petition here.

The MSHA has declined to comment.

Does your worst golf shot ever top these horror stories?

Published

on

We’ve all hit some golf shots that haunt our dreams. Not mere shanks, duffs, and chunks, but rather, awful shots compounded by horrific results.

Jacked_Loft started a forum thread dedicated to the worst of the worst last year, and it’s still going strong with abominable examples of awful golf shots.

Here’s penned a hilarious introduction along with this bit of hackery of his own.

“Par 3, 200 yards long with a tightly staked out OB on the right side. Our 4 ball has walked off the green and back to the tee, placing our bags in front of the tee but between the tee and the OB stakes.

“I swing out of my shoes with a 3-iron and produce the most solid shank I’ve ever struck. The ball flies about 60° to the right, hits my bag and ricochets further right, crossing the OB line. I’m now laying 5, and my buddies are laying on the ground screaming with laughter.”

The aptly named sheldonjhacker offered this terrifying tale…from St. Andrews of all places

“Overswing into a stiff breeze and snap hook my 3-wood tee shot which screams almost perpendicular-left and smashes into the bay window of the famous Rusacks hotel. I was so pissed at myself, but it’s a great story now because I don’t think I’ve ever seen my buddies laugh harder.”

Blackngold_blood writes

“I was playing in a 4-man tourney a few years ago with a guy that teed the ball up about an inch above his driver. He hovered his driver and was striping it all day. Even into the 20mph wind he was still hitting it 270 yes. “

“We got to a par 4 with a tee box set back in a corner with ob to the right and 20yds behind. Playing into the wind he proceeded to swing out of his shoes right under the ball, which popped straight up and the wind took it backwards OB. To add insult to injury he slammed his driver on the ground…snapped the head clean off.”

Unreal! The Beav tells his tale

“I grab 4-wood and proceed to barely make contact on the low heel like a champ. The ball is straight pulled about 5 feet off the ground and hits a sign 30 yards away that says “Carts <—“. It bounces straight back towards me and I have to jump out of the way.”

“The ball ends up underneath the starters table (10 yards behind the tee) and I need to get help taking relief from the damn tent. Now I’m hitting 2 off the deck from behind the tee box with a growing gallery wondering WTF was going on. I wanted to crawl into a hole.”

LOL. What say you, GolfWRX members? Do you have anything that tops the aforementioned?
