GolfWRX is live this week from the 2017 Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Mississippi. The course, which will be a combination of the Dogwood and Azalea nines, will play as par-72 measuring 7,421 yards for the event.

While most of the top-ranked players in the world are competing in China this week at the WGC-HSBC Champions, the Sanderson Farms Championship is set to host some notables including Zac Blair, Angel Cabrera, Luke Donald, Harris English, Chesson Hadley, Beau Hossler, Smylie Kaufman, Hunter Mahan, Davis Love III, Shawn Stefani, Daniel Summerhays, Brendon Todd and more.

Cody Gribble won last year’s event by four shots after starting off with a first-round 73; he closed 63-67-65 in his final three rounds. Gribble is back in the field this year to defend his title.

Golf clubs are eye-candy for gearheads……. eye-candy for real men is girlheads.

Gearheads only fall in love with the fancy backs of the irons and the pretty graphics on the shafts. Even grips are getting fancy treatment with multi-colors. Golf clubs are so eye-catching nowadays and make one proud to own a set of beautiful weapons.

Love the wicked channels on the back of the Miura irons. I bet they work wonders for off center impact and looks great for WITB.
Only thing that bothers me is the hosels being welded to the club body for Miura irons. Obviously cheaper to forge the body and weld on the hosel with a messy weld bead filled with strange grain patterns.
Oh well… sell the Miura, not the steak …..

Spin welding leaves no weld beads in addition spin welding by design is the most accurate way to have absolutely precise offset, alignment and hosel placement across an entire production run. Why do you need uniform grain structure in a hosel? Spin welding layers metal on metal and the metal is bonded via high pressure friction. You should look into the process, Miura has released alot of media about the process itself.

But that forged ‘buttery feeel’ of impact must be transmitted through the hosel into the shaft and into the golfer’s hands.
Does that mean a discontinuous grain welding bead can effectively transmit that ‘feeel’….. and if so what’s the use of having a forged clubhead when it is disconnected by a ‘spin weld’ from the hosel and shaft?
Isn’t it Mizuno who brag about their “grain flow” forging process from the toe to the heel to the end of the hosel?
So which is superior… a complete and uniform forging or a no-hosel forging with a welded steel tube for the hosel?

Good point….. and are golf clubs “hot” forged or only cast steel given a “cold forged” nominal stamping so they can be labelled “forged”? There is a world of difference between hot and cold forging with the latter being much cheaper because it does not “form” forge the club head; it only affects the surface of the club head.
Ignorant golfers can be so easily scammed to believe they have something special in their clubs.

And then there are ‘fake-forged’ clubs like TMs P-790 with a thin ‘roll’ forged faceplate and the rest of the clubhead is a cheap steel casting.

Photos from the 2022 PGA Show

Published

GolfWRX was on site for the golf business’s annual winter rite: the PGA Merchandise Show.

While the weather was less than cooperative for demo day, there were no such difficulties inside the Orange County Convention Center. This isn’t to say there weren’t significant figurative headwinds influencing this year’s Show, but those are widely discussed elsewhere. Our duty here was merely to document, and that is what we did to the tune of more than 1,500 photos, below.

Enjoy!

Interesting photos from the Mallorca Open

Published

on

Thanks to our friends at SMS_on_Tour for sending along some shots from last week’s Mallorca Open at Golf Santa Ponsa.

Denmark’s Jeff Winther topped a trio of players at 14 under (and some trouble in a bathroom) to win.

Let’s take a look at some interesting photos!

First up, Ashley Chesters with a Nike Vapor Fly 5-wood in the bag.

Twitter sensation Eddie Pepperell is one of the few pros we’ve spotted with a TaylorMade 300 Mini Driver in play.

Scott Hend’s wedges feature some fantastic stamping.

An original White Hot 2-Ball in the wild. The real OG!

Mitsubishi Kai’li (which officially launched today) spotted here.

Scott Hend with the pink paintfill on his Toulon Palm Beach.

Jazz Janewattanond’s wedge stamping never disappoints (even if often confounds)
