One of the most neglected areas of the golf swing is the grip. How you hold the handle of the club will have a profound effect on how and where you hit the golf ball.

I’m not a believer in a “perfect grip,” but I do believe that your grip must be functional. So whether you’re a beginner picking the club up for the first time or a seasoned golfer, this video is a must watch for you.

    Surely the ‘functional’ grip should start with the anatomical aspects of the hands … big meaty hands, thin hands, long/short fingers, long thumb or short thumb, and how the grip alignment changes as the club lie angles change.
    This leads to the use of regular, mid-size or jumbo grip sizes. And all of this must be resolved before you lay your hands on the club for a ‘functional’ gripping.

In a series of Instant Swing Fixes, I will be going through all areas of the golf swing to help golfers personalize the scientific information that leads to these conclusions of how to best swing a golf club.

On the first episode of our new “Unlocking Your Golfing Potential” podcast series, Coach Will Robins and Cordie Walker talk about what a golf coach is, and why getting one might be just what you need to to actually achieve your golfing goals. The current model of golf instruction is scheduling a one hour lesson and letting that instructor know what you want to work on… but Coach Will explains why that just doesn’t work if you want lower scores.

Here’s a response to a question on my Instagram page from Neil Riley. He asked if he should steepen the angle of attack in the downswing in order to stop hitting fat shots. In this video, I share two of the reasons why golfers might be hitting fat shots, as well as two drills to practice that will help them stop hitting it fat.
