Your favorite Scotty Cameron…ever!

CameronProto

Simple enough question. Numerous possibilities. Plenty of passion. An excellent thread in theory turns out very well in practice as mattd1206 asks for WRXers favorite Scotty Cameron models. Check it out if you’re a sucker for Scotty.

Forged + forgiveness + beauty?

Mizuno_MP_18_Irons

Different golfers. Different handicaps. Different wants and needs in a golf club. Mfm22 is looking for a forged iron that offers a measure of forgiveness and is aesthetically pleasing? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and forgiveness in a forged iron is highly subjective, so this is an interesting thread to peruse.

How common is using fewer than 14 clubs?

OUUL_Super_Light_Stand_Bag_Top

14 clubs. If you were just coming to the game of golf, you’d think that was a lot, wouldn’t you? How many weapons could you get by with if you had to? Five? Six? Spartan6910 poses the question to the forum faithful: Do any of you carry fewer than 14 clubs (and why)?

Jack Nicklaus’ Rolex

Fantastic stuff here as the Golden Bear tells the story of a Rolex (the only watch he’s ever owned!) that he’s worn since the 1960s. Ebrasmus21 spotted the video on Hodinkee and shared it with the community. An absolute must watch, and the forum chatter is top-notch as well.

Peeping PGA Tour tax documents

1

Ever wondered what the PGA Tour’s (non-profit organization that it is) Form 990 looks like? Ebrasmus21 (again!) dug it up. And while the form itself is interesting, it’s the five pages of hot takes from GolfWRX members that are worth your time. Interesting stuff.

I hate looking at Scotty putters cause they are just bling for suckers who think more expensive is better performance. It’s only for status show and copying the pros who they love.

I just love the Scottys with all those paint-filled lil’ holes and the big bright circles too. Soooo cooool

I hear all the time about Scotty Cameron putters nothing more than copies of Ping Anser model. That may be true but Ping putters I believe haven’t been up to standards since years ago. I currently have 2 Newports one being a Buttonback which I have always wanted and got one a year ago. Ping putters no longer have that clean look. Scotty Camerons although pricy hopefully will stay true to the classic look just like Jacks Rolex

Yes, the ‘look’ of a putter is paramount. Personally, I still use the Titleist Bullseye putter and you can’t get any more basic than that. Since my impact point is consistent, I don’t need the superfluous heel-toe weighting.
If you need a heel-toe weighted putter that indicates you have a sloppy impact point, e.i. you are clumsy and no amount of fancy putter design will rescue you from your sloppiness…. not even a Scotty…. which is more for show than performance.

“…that clean look….”? What about all that silly comical engraving all over the Scotty sole and back and painted in multi-colors? That’s gotta be done for childish clowns who want to show off their new garish status toy.

Re “interesting thread to peruse” on forged irons. Here is the essence of the highly informative discourse:
    • Old or New   –  I’m using Mizuno MX 23’s & honestly they are hard to beat –
Feel wise they are good – I’m sure there is better but  the forgiving part of the equation is important
    • I really don’t want anything larger than the 23’s .. Feel / sound is very important for me
dull thud / soft marshmallow  is my preferred
    • 2011 callaway legacy black… why on earth they never made these for the US market it beyind me …  they have very little offset, plenty of bounce and they are ENDO forged …  marshmellows galore
    • I can’t remember the exact size of the 23, but the Srixon 545 is a pretty legit contender. Little bigger, but very little offset.
    • I was going to suggest Srixon 545 (slight bias) or Callaway Apex. Ap2 can get thrown in there, too.
    • Epon
    • Nike 2014 Pro Combo’s
    • AP2’s
    • Love my AP2s.  Can’t believe how forgiving they are when I don’t hit it pure.
    • Never played the MX23’s but have played numerous other Mizuno blade models – 23’s are supposedly great clubs from past reviews!
    • I tried ap1’s a while ago  good distance , feel  eh!  but they are cast  , Srixons that I have tried have pretty wide soles .
The mizuno 850’s do seem like the best / closest  [ from 23’s ]  but that boron ??
    • 850 forged are beautiful in the bag. Honestly i get complimented on them on a lot when i play with different guys. They look even better with a few dings
Also quite forgiving. Longer than normal blade length and i hit them higher than i thought i would
    • MP55.  JDM only but they can be purchased via a the interwebs.
    • I’ve played the MX23s, then the MX300’s and now have the MPH5’s in the bag. They may fit the bill for you.
    • I am like a broken clock.
Macgregor vfoil 1025m, or mc. (Blades or blades/CB blended)
    Awesome clubs.
    • Apex Pro, Cally Forged 2013, Apex Forged, Apex MB (more forgiving than they look)
    •Nike VR Pro Combo
    • Bridgestone J15 CB
    Cobra Fly-Z+ Forged

    —————-
Ah, the sharing of club-love experiences and pride. It’s a great game!

I have a fake Scotty and it performs well. I think it’s made from die-cast zinc and I feel no balance nor impact differences from a real Scotty. It cost $60.

    • Gil

      Sep 22, 2017 at 2:25 pm

Me too, and nobody suspects the difference and if they do I tell them. There is no performance difference between the Scotty and my copy. The only thing they can be proud of is they paid $300 more than I did just for the status and ego boost.

      Sep 22, 2017 at 7:39 pm

That’s not a fake ‘Scotty’, it’s a SCUTTY. Look again and you will see the ‘U’ almost an ‘O’.

      • O.B.

        Sep 23, 2017 at 3:35 pm

I got a SCUTTY too and it’s perfect. Sets up good, swings flat, good balance, sweet hits, and a lot lot cheaper than the real thing.

          Sep 25, 2017 at 11:06 am

Where can I find a Scutty? I don’t see any on eBay.

From the Forums: How are you liking TaylorMade’s Qi10 fairway woods?

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing TaylorMade’s new Qi10 fairway woods. WRXer ‘ace036’ plans on testing them in the next few weeks, saying: “from how they look from address and frame the ball is much more appealing to my eye versus my current Paradym fairway woods.” And our members have been sharing their positive feedback in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Edwardsr: “I got fit into the Qi10 core model with Ventus TR Black 8X and it’s absolutely amazing for me.During the fitting with my 12-15 swings with it, it was the most efficient combo I’ve ever tested, tons of 1.48 smash and 3 or 4 1.49 smash (which I don’t think I’ve ever gotten on 3 wood on a launch monitor).”
  • MiloMalt: “No complaints and so far only high praise for my Qi10 Tour 3 and 5 wood. I’m getting great numbers and a nice penetrating ball flight with great height whereas with my old TSi2 4 wood it was spinny and ballooning and short because of that.”
  • courcy75: “The Qi10 Tour 3 wood I just put in play has been outstanding for me. Finally found something I like as much as the 07 burner tp.”
