From the Forums: How are you liking TaylorMade’s Qi10 fairway woods?
In our forums, our members have been discussing TaylorMade’s new Qi10 fairway woods. WRXer ‘ace036’ plans on testing them in the next few weeks, saying: “from how they look from address and frame the ball is much more appealing to my eye versus my current Paradym fairway woods.” And our members have been sharing their positive feedback in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Edwardsr: “I got fit into the Qi10 core model with Ventus TR Black 8X and it’s absolutely amazing for me.During the fitting with my 12-15 swings with it, it was the most efficient combo I’ve ever tested, tons of 1.48 smash and 3 or 4 1.49 smash (which I don’t think I’ve ever gotten on 3 wood on a launch monitor).”
- MiloMalt: “No complaints and so far only high praise for my Qi10 Tour 3 and 5 wood. I’m getting great numbers and a nice penetrating ball flight with great height whereas with my old TSi2 4 wood it was spinny and ballooning and short because of that.”
- courcy75: “The Qi10 Tour 3 wood I just put in play has been outstanding for me. Finally found something I like as much as the 07 burner tp.”

From the Forums: Should I play a 3-wood or 5-wood?
In our forums, our members have been discussing 3-woods, 5-woods and bag setups. WRXer ‘Cole Fleming’ is currently unsure of his setup, and reached out to fellow members, saying:
“Thoughts on people playing 3 vs 5-wood? I have a high SS 118 with driver 280s + carry. I really never use my 3-wood now as my course doesn’t really have the need unless I move to the back tees. I usually carry it about 260+. I’m ultimately looking for something easier to hit and maybe start trying to use it off the tee some to keep me out of trouble.
I also play a 7-wood. Love it so don’t want them to be to0 close. Ive never even considered or looked at a 5-wood. I have a fitting today so I’m sure I could test them, but wanted somewhat of an idea going into it to tell the fitter so I’m not swinging so many clubs.”
And our members have been sharing their thoughts on the matter, as well as mentioning what has worked best for their game.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- pu_golf88: “I’m dropping the 3 wood this year for a 5 wood. I hit my drivers a similar distance as you and find that my 3 wood isn’t a fairway finder, I really only use it if there’s a dogleg where a driver would go thru where I want to land the ball. I think a 5 wood goes far enough to use it as a fairway finder off the tee when I want more distance than hitting my 3 driving iron.”
- T626G: “I myself have decided to try a 5-wood. Never really had much luck or need with a 3-wood. Should be easier to hit. I’m going to cut it down a 1/2″ just to help control it and swing easier.”
- jedc: “Adjustable 5-wood turned down to 4-wood loft (and open looking face is nice). I had a fitting last month and really liked the PXG Black Ops 5-wood.”

I’ve been playing golf for 140 years and in my opinion you can’t beat a good hickory shaft, a rusty clubhead and a nice gutta percha ball. All this new-fangled stuff is just smoke and mirrors.

LOL… looks like we have a case of bait and switch by OEMs claiming their clubs are ‘forged’ when only a small part is forged, if that.
I remember an OEM claiming their irons were “cold forged” which turned out to be finished steel casting getting mildly stamped to create a slightly ‘forged’ surface only. Sneaky, eh?

Forged? Where is the 730, that is forged, the rest are “co-forged” as in face only welded to a cast body and internals, not exactly the same thing.

Yes, the 730 may be a solid forging, but the 790 is falsely presented as fully “forged” on the hosel. Perhaps TM should have “co-forged” or “face-forged” stamped on the hosel, not “forged”. That’s outright deception and you know it.
And then there’s the “TUNGSTEN” label floating on the back of the 790 clubhead. Hmmm..

TM call it “forged construction” on their website here:
http://taylormadegolf.ca/p790-irons-p-series.html
So how much of the clubhead ‘construction’ is ‘forged’?
Sounds ambiguous to me.

Titleist’s AP2 is co-forged and also has 17-4 stainless on the face but it only says forged. So what’s the big deal? Also the Apex CF, which is the same, with forged body and stainless face but also only says forged.

If it says “forged” and is not 100% forged then it is a forgery.
There is no such thing as “co-forged”; that’s just scamming the consumer.
Plain and simple.

Face it silly boy. If any part of the club is forged they can call it “forged” Now get some rest, you sound tired.

That’s deception in package labeling for suckers like you who swallow it blindly and pay for cheap cast steel.

No it’s not. Wow, you are having a real problem understanding this.

It’s not? But the word ‘forged’ appears on a non-forged clubhead. What’s to understand? It’s a forgery, plain and simple.

P-790 is fake forged even though they stamp ‘forged’ on the hosel. Only the thin faceplate is forged and the rest of the club head is a steel casting. So it’s like maybe 15% forged and 85% cast steel with a tungsten plug inside.
If they stamped ‘forged’ on the faceplate that would be legit, but not on the cast hosel. It’s a marketing scam, so why doesn’t GolfWRX expose the scam, particularly for the boys on the main forum.
