Coming Soon: TaylorMade P-730 MB Irons?

Earlier this week, we spotted TaylorMade’s new P-790 irons, which were being tested as driving irons by Jon Rahm and Jason Day at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. They’re the likely replacements for TaylorMade’s UDI (Ultimate Driving Iron) that was released in 2014, and it’s not a stretch to think that TaylorMade will release a full set of the P-790 to add a longer-flying, more-forgiving option to its new P-700 iron series to market.

Thanks to a social media post from Senior Director of TaylorMade Irons, Tomo Bystedt, we now also know to be on the lookout for another new P-700 series iron set. Bystedt tweeted that Dustin Johnson could soon be making a switch to the company’s new P-730 irons.

Johnson also confirmed in a Twitter post that he’s testing the P-730 irons.

The P-730 irons look a lot like the “Rors Proto” and “Rose Proto” irons that are being used on the PGA Tour by Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose, which are muscleback irons. That’s a good indication of a potential Johnson switch, as the 2016 U.S. Open Champion has been a steadfast user of TaylorMade’s Tour Preferred MB irons since they were released in 2014.     blades this blades that..blah blah blah. Who cares? All forged blades behave nearly identical. Tweak the lie, loft, weight amd use the same shaft youve been using for years and basically youve just managed to spend money for essentially that same stuff you had. Sure they look nice but whats the point? Anything you hit pure will feel like butter. How mich softer can butter be?

    Very nice looking set of blades…they look very much like my old set of MacGregor 985 blades. Timeless classic design, indeed!

    Golfers playing old equipment need new clubs every year. New clubs are not made for the “Neurotic gearheads will continue to slobber over new models”. Most are made for golfers playing older equipment that need new clubs. What are those playing MP33’s or 690MB’s that have rusted and worn out their groves supposed to do? Quit playing?

      You send them back to The Iron Factory and they come back looking and playing as though they are brand new. I’m still playing 680 mb’s and just had mine refinished; couldn’t be happier!

    Really, does that channel do anything other than separate the top from the bottom? Why does it have to have such separation in design with any blade? Why not just make the blade a blade and make it all one-slash flat design with no indentation, no channel, no cut muscle, no perimeter edging, but just make it nice and flush flat clean, with just some name graphics.

      I would venture to say the removed material from the channel can be redistributed in the head to tweak the COG. Am looking forward to exchanging the 730 short irons for my 7-PW in my existing 770 set.

    It’s a blade. Only so much tech you can have in a blade. For the blade lover these clubs will be eye catching and they will want to test them and put them in play, for guys who don’t like blades, there is nothing to see here. I for one hope they are available soon as I would love to have blades back in the bag and replace the 770s (which are a lovely set of clubs in their own right!)

    Been playing these same design heads for 35 years. It’s a billet of steel smushed into function. KYEOI would be my first thought as to whom is forging these…look at the mp18 and you will see the same look. The more things change in this game the more they stay the same. SHAFTS are what has changed; allowing any player to dial in feel, flight, weight, etc. Grips technology as well.

Accra launches new GX wood and hybrid shafts

Accra Golf shafts have long been synonymous with fitting, and the new GX line of driver, fairway, and hybrid shafts continues that legacy.

Since 2004, Accra has been making high-end performance golf shafts that use the latest in materials and design philosophy. Their group of around 350 fitters are some of the best and most highly ranked in the world. While you might see other brands on professional tours more often, there are plenty of touring pros using Accra products and winning.

Accra’s new GX line of shafts is designed to offer a consistent and accurate shaft to a wide range of players. The GX line consists of 3 different shafts in driver, fairway, and hybrid designs.

The Accra GX shafts are designed for fitters to dial in golfers to the perfect shaft for their swing. Accra included a ton of technology into the GX line including their S3 profiling, DyMatch, and Constant Flex technology. DyMatch has been Accra’s quest to ensure that all shafts in a family feel and perform similar from driver to hybrid or iron shaft. Typically shafts get stiffer as they go up in weight, but Accra’s Constant Flex keeps the flex of the shafts consistent so fitters and golfers can dial in the weight that the golfer need without have to work around a stiffer or softer flex. Accra worked with Cool Clubs to build out its S3 Shaft Profiling system that not only allows a quick and easy EI profile of any shaft, it helps with quality control to ensure shafts come out of production exactly as they were designed.

Accra GX Red 300 Series

GX Red is lowest launching and spinning option in the GX line. Driver shafts have fewer options with just the 360 and 370 models that come in at 63 and 71 grams. The GX Red is made for faster swinging, or stronger, players who require a stiff (M4) or x-stiff (M5) shaft for their swing. Fairway and hybrid models are also on the higher weight side with the fairway clocking in at 80g and 90g for the hybrid. Accra designed this series with one of the stiffest tip sections of any Accra shaft in the current line, and while it is built to control launch and spin, the Red 300 Series will still offer that smooth feel.

Accra GX Green 100 Series

If your swing usually works best with mid-launch and spin, then the GX Green 200 series might be the right shaft for you. Offered in more weight and flex options, you can get a GX Green in 52 grams and all the way up to 70 grams in regular, stiff, and x-stiff flexes. GX Green will give the player a smooth feel and transition from the handle down to the tip section while still providing great stability and consistency. Accra also focused on the energy transfer of this shaft, and golfers can see some increased ball speed compared to other shafts.

Accra GX Blue 200 Series

While the GX Blue 100 Series is the highest launching and spinning option in the GX lineup, it will still give golfers the control and consistency they need. Starting off at 40g, the GX Blue series puts an emphasis on lighter weight to allow players to swing the club faster, promoting more distance. Accra touts the stability of the GX 140 Blue driver shaft by stating that some long driver competitors have put it in play to try and gain every MPH they can. Matching fairway and hybrid shafts are both on the lighter side at around 60g for the fairway and 65g for the hybrid depending on the flex.
