This is how PGA Tour pros gamble during tournament rounds

Published

on

While we know plenty of players on the PGA Tour gamble during practice rounds, gambling during tournament rounds is even less discussed.

Of course, officially, nobody on the PGA Tour gambles and the practice is prohibited. Unofficially, well…

As much as the PGA Tour takes a Judge Smails tack with the matter, players gamble during tournament rounds, as the Undercover Tour Pro tells Golf Digest.

The pro says he never starts a tournament-round wager on the first tee. Rather, a situation will arise like the following: The pro and the player in his pairing are both well outside the cut line. In order to make things interesting, he decides to make a wager.

Likewise, if both players are near the bottom of the leaderboard on Sunday.

The pro says:

“Even if I shoot 65, I move up maybe 10 places. And a solid round like 69 or 70 is going to yield something like $1,500 more in prize money, pre-tax. It might sound illogical, but the glory of taking a few hundo off a colleague becomes more interesting than a potentially slightly larger cut of a purse.”

He also offered this unique perspective on inside-the-ropes in-tournament wagering.

“At the end of a disappointing week, the last thing you want to do is grind. But if you’re not always trying to get it going, you’ve got about zero chance of discovering that thing—some little key or thought—that turns your game around.”

So there you have it, it’s fun for the pros and for the good of the game.

I just can’t see how $200 dollars tax free compares to $1500, FedEx points etc….

As someone raised in a household that was a literal hellhole due to breadwinner-gamble-holism, I find it offensive that these pampered slobs that get to play a GAME for a living, can’t find enough incentive to give their all once they are “out of the mix.” It’s an insult to every fan who follows the sport, watches on TV, or PAYS for a ticket to watch/follow around these spoiled brats. I guess the incentive of knowing that they’re attempting to insure the continued high life-style they are currently living isn’t enough either. I’m sure I’ll eventually realize that I’m out of line, because… THESE GUYS ARE GOOD! ????

Maybe your family shouldn’t have been too poor to be ruined by gambling.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
