Let Bryson DeChambeau be the Golf Scientist
It was a lot easier to knock Bryson DeChambeau’s “science-based” approach to the game of golf when he was missing cut after cut earlier this year.
But after his come-from-behind win at the John Deere Classic, which came on the heels of a run of good form, it’s time to let Bryson do Bryson and appreciate his mad brilliance.
And you can’t blame the guy for feeling vindicated.
“There has been a lot of talk,” DeChambeau said. “I had somebody say, Go back and get your old clubs or whatever. This week out here there was somebody that said that…Happens every week.
“I just throw it to the side and say, Don’t even worry about it. You’re going down the road you’ve chosen and you’re comfortable with it, and you know it’s going to in the end be the right thing.”
Seriously? Hecklers are telling him to ditch single-length irons? Maybe they’d be more understanding if they understood his single-length experiment, and the entirety of his golf experiment, isn’t just for him, it’s for all golfers.
Consider what he told reporters after his John Deere win when asked what he wants to do in the game.
“I want to make it easier for the amateurs. I think there is an easier way out there and people just haven’t figured it out. I hope I’m on the right track. I really believe I am.
“I think there are some cool things that I do that can help amateurs out there. People may think my golf swing is really weird and funky, but I think it’s one of the most consistent swings out here.
“So that is one of my bigger goals, is to hopefully help out the game itself and bring more people in through these new ways of playing.”
Perhaps DeChambeau is a bit too cerebral for your liking. Perhaps you find him arrogant. Heck, perhaps you don’t believe what he’s saying. But it’s time we let the Golf Scientist do his experiments in peace.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons
In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.
For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- btyh: “Holy offset.”
- Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
- bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing
As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.
Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.
What happens when 4 #PGATOUR pros take a day off?
Luckily, the cameras were rolling.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.

The article itself is a contradiction. If you want him to be left alone. Quit bringing him up.

Not sure why so many people care that he uses single length or how he swings to club. He plays better golf than 99.9 percent of all golfers out there. A golf swing is like a finger print, it is unique to that player and there are no two swings a like. I personally have played with the lengths of irons and from doing that, I play all my clubs shorter compared to the industry standard. If he sees golf this way, good for him keep plugging away with it. Maybe we can all learn something from him and incorporate it to our games.

if a person wishes to criticize Bryson, then spend time in science class and offer fact based comments. Science teaches how the world works – including how to hit a golf ball.
Most golf equipment is based on marketing gimmicks like clubs too long, swing weight, and variable length irons. All these complicate the game preventing most players from reaching their potential.
Bryson is on the right path – observe, learn and improve your game.

Those who say his swing is quirky need to look at not just his one plane move. If you look how his body flows throughout his swing to me he looks like all the other motions you see in great swings. I personally like that he’s trying to eliminate excess movement in his swing which I believe he accomplishes. The one length for irons I’m not so sure of. But he has now won so let’s give him his due credit.

“Seriously? Hecklers are telling him to ditch single-length irons?”
No, they’re telling him to go back to his Edel irons that he won the NCAA and USAM with.
Way off the mark as usual Ben.

The USGA needs to outlaw single length irons, and the single plane swing. We cannot have anything that makes the game easier.
