Father of the Year: Davis Love is carrying his son’s bag at the U.S. Open

Published

on

Ernie Els pointed out Davis Love III’s resume now reads in part: “Ryder Cup captain. PGA champion. [PGA Tour] caddie.”

Why is it that Love, who missed out on U.S. Open qualifying at the Columbus qualifier, will be carrying a bag this week? Well, another Love did make it through qualifying.

Love’s son, Davis Love IV, otherwise known as Dru, qualified for his first U.S. Open, making it as an alternate from the Georgia sectional.

This will be Love III’s 24th U.S. Open appearance, and his first as a caddie, obviously.

Dru Love graduated from Alabama and is now making his bid for the Tour.

“I’ve played with a bunch of 19- and 20-year-olds, But it makes me feel old that he’s playing.” – Davis LOVE III

Love III has made the cut in 16 of his 23 U.S. Open appearances with five top-10 finishes. He tied for 29th in his most recent U.S. Open effort: 2012 at the Olympic Club.

This will be Dru Love’s second PGA Tour start. He teed it up at the RSM Classic in 2015, missing the cut.

A quick glance at the books: Dru is listed between 1500-1 and 2000-1 at most major sites, so it doesn’t seem like Vegas thinks DL III carrying his sticks is going to make much difference. But what better way to get thrown into the fire of major championship competition than with your dad/a major champion on the bag playing the most mentally challenging of the four majors?

While DL IV is almost certain to miss the cut, his father is doing the young golfer’s career a great service by volunteering to schlep his sticks around Erin Hills. You have to applaud him for doing the duty…and enduring the inevitable “Hey, nice of your son to give you a job!” jokes that will be more prevalent than Erin Hills’ fescue.

Tough to imagine what would be better for the pair than spending Father’s Day playing in the U.S. Open together. Gotta be rooting for Team Love.

Thanks Ben, this is such a better story than the exaggerated fescue at Erin Hills this week. Very cool

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
