Paul Azinger says “some players” think Tiger Woods has a problem

Published

on

Pointless speculation? Clickbait-level take? Giving voice to a widely held but unspoken sentiment? There are several ways to spin Paul Azinger’s suggestion that Tiger Woods may have a problem with painkillers on “The Herd.”

And while Azinger can be a divisive figure and has courted controversy in the past, he’s not, say, Skip Bayless: a polemicist who floats outrageous takes for self-promotional purposes.

Even more significant than Azinger’s suggestion is this remark.

“I know firsthand there are some players that think there’s a problem there with Tiger…I haven’t been around him much the last few years. But there are some players out there that are saying this has been a problem for a while.”

So, to be clear, ‘Zinger said he doesn’t personally have the information to make a judgment about Woods’ pain med use. But the suggestion that some of Woods’ peers who have spent more time around the golfer think there could be an issue is significant.

And obviously, PGA Tour pros are, ultimately, a close-knit fraternity and generally aren’t keen to throw one another under the bus. So the fact that such whispers exist is noteworthy.

Team Tiger officially chalked Woods May 29 arrest behavior up to an “unexpected reaction to prescribed medications.” It doesn’t take an M.D. to know that the explanation is plausible: powerful narcotics, many of which can have significant side effects on their own — it’s not unbelievable that a person could end up in the slurring, stumbling, sedated state Tiger Woods found himself in May 29.

That said, Azinger doesn’t seem to put much stock in the explanation, and indicates those who know Woods better don’t either.

“Tiger’s close to a few people. Not many. And the few people that are around Tiger probably know there’s a problem. And if they don’t intervene, then it’s on them. But addiction’s a big deal, and if he’s addicted, then somebody better intervene.”

And speaking of big deals, far from being a Page Six story: It’s significant if players on the PGA Tour, particularly those close to Woods, believe he may have a problem with painkillers.

If this is the case, more than rooting for him to return to the course, or spill his guts about the events of May 29, you have to hope Tiger Woods gets the help he needs.

Paul Azinger, a mediocre journeyman who happened to win the PGA Championship. Meanwhile, Larry Nelson, a true American hero and a gentleman with more talent than Azinger, never got to Captain the Ryder Cup team.

Azinger, put a sock on it, TOOL!

Agreed. Zinger has reached a new low, and this article is just as pathetic.

Glad that somebody (Paul Azinger) seems to actually care about Tiger Woods, instead of the sycophants that say “none of your business”.

People who care about Tiger wouldn’t go out blab to a reporter. Your thinking is idiotic. I’m more concerned about your IQ then Tigers “problem”.

Feel sorry for you spouse and kids that are in your life if you think going around and blabbing to people that have a big mouth about somebody’s problems is what you think caring is. Yes I realize this is an old article couldn’t resist with your comment though. WOW

Medical Marijuana is legal in Florida now, Tiger should have gotten his card for pain management and all this mess he’s in and his possible addiction to opiates would be non-existent.

None of Azinger’s business, and especially none of his business to go blabbing about things he isn’t even sure about.

Hey Paul, here’s an idea for you. If you think there’s a problem with Tiger, HOW ABOUT YOU REACH OUT AND HELP HIM?! Instead of saying it’s on someone else for not helping Tiger, why don’t you be a man and see if he needs help?

    Paul is pathetic.

Azinger relishes any attention he can get now that he’s no longer in the spotlight. .To bad he has to throw out unconfirmed allegations on the best golfer in the world since Nicklaus to put his name in the media. He should be ashamed. A zinger is a troll and should go back to his hole and keep his mouth shut. Worry about your self Azinger!!

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
