WATCH: Head falls off Horschel’s PXG Bat Attack putter mid-round

Published

on

Typically when you see a golfer putting with something other than a putter, it means one of the following:

  1. They’re putting so poorly that using another club is actually beneficial to their score
  2. They snapped the putter over their leg (or head) in frustration
  3. The putter is sitting at the bottom of a lake
  4. They gave away the putter to a fan

For Billy Horschel, it seems to be none of the above. Based on the footage from the 2017 FedEx St. Jude Classic on Thursday, Horschel’s PXG Bat Attack putter head — I’d be remiss not to note the putter retails for $550 — fell off after he simply tossed it in the air and failed to catch it. The angle of the video doesn’t necessarily provide incontrovertible evidence as to what happened, so check it out for yourself.

The freak accident happened on hole No. 8, Horschel’s 17th hole of the day. He was sitting at 2-over par, and finished with two pars on his final two holes of the day without his flat stick.

It doesn’t surprise me that the head fell off. I’ve been a clubmaker for over 20 years and compared to the other top line clubs, PXG clubs lack in workmanship and overall quality. I had to adjust the loft/lie for a customer (a top amateur) and a stretch ring appeared on the hosel of the 4 and 7 iron! I’ve adjusted thousands of clubs and haven’t seen that for 15 years. Also, the hosels are inexplicably bored to .390”, which them weaker and means you get a whole lot of epoxy between the shaft and the hosel.

I remember being young and stupid and teeing off with my old Acushnet Bulleye putter (the heavy blade for the record) and only bending it a bit. Quick back-handed whack on a tree and it was right back to straight. Loved that putter.

A $550 putter foiled by a 2 gram 2 cent glue failure. Somehow I think that would really peeve me.

Still amazed how they bought a ton of players before proving their equipment on tour – money talks as always.

PXG needs to add a few more screws.

Perhaps it is their clubs that are screwed!

Didn’t Feherty say you could dig up a fir tree with a Ping Anser 2 and still have something to putt with? Should have stayed with Ping.

Would love to watch it, BUT it comes up as video unavailable. Did PXG send a cease and desist? (lol)

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
