This crazy petition aims to get Phil Mickelson into the U.S. Open

Published

on

During last week’s Memorial Tournament, Phil Mickelson announced he plans to skip the U.S. Open to attend his daughter’s high school graduation in California June 15.

Mickelson is yet to officially withdraw, allowing for improbable and unforeseen occurrence (such as the first round being suspended due to bad weather). So, it’s all but certain the left-hander won’t be making a bid for the career grand slam this year.

Certainly, this fact isn’t sitting well with many golf fans. One in particular, a club pro by the name of Derek Deminsky, is trying to do something about it.

Deminsky started a petition at Change.org to “change the date” of the Pacific Ridge School’s graduation.

Here’s what he writes in the petition.

“On behalf of golf fans everywhere, I am requesting to see if there is ANY WAY possible to reschedule your graduation ceremony to Wed June 14th (or before) to allow Phil Mickelson to play in this year’s U.S. Open and continue his quest for the career Grand Slam.”

“For Phil not to play to see Amanda speak is absolutely beautiful and shows the kind of caring father and family man he is, but if there is ANY WAY POSSIBLE to move it to the day before, I and MILLIONS of golf fans everywhere would GREATLY appreciate it!”

While there are too many factors in play for the school to change the graduation date, most likely, you have to appreciate the effort of a Phil Phanatic to see Mickelson at Erin Hills.

This is life as a parent, we all have had to change plans for our kids. Better schedule better next year.

This was not a scheduling error on his part. He does not make the academic schedule for his children’s high school…

Right, kids are only kids a little while, most parents understand the importance of supporting your Children and High School Graduation, for many, is a very big day in their life many seeing it the day they become an adult….and to even think for one minute a Graduation day for one parent could be changed is pure nonsense. Just about every teen I ever knew at 17, 18 knew the date of their GRADUATION FROM HIGH SCHOOL long before the date of some golf tournament….

I’m just curious. Doesn’t high schools usually announce graduation several months in advance? Phil should have known about the date of the graduation as far back as last fall. Why does he wait until two weeks before the Open to announce that he’s skipping the tournament.

Obviously because things could change. What if due to weather the event was moved to the following week? If he prematurely withdrew, that would have been a mistake. Also, as someone who is trying to get a grand slam, it makes even more sense for him to sign up and wait to cancel. Why automatically eliminate himself from the tournament so far ahead. He also didn’t know if his daughter was going to speak at the graduation until recently more than likely.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
