Every year, thousands of golfers — anyone with a GHIN handicap of 1.4 or lower can enter — attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open. For this year’s competition at Erin Hills, 525 golfers advanced through local qualifying, and 902 players are currently fighting for 72 spots in the 2017 U.S. Open field.

On Monday, GolfWRX was on site for U.S. Open sectional qualifying at Germantown C.C. in Memphis, Tennessee. It’s an ultra-competitive qualifier because many professionals are in town for the FedEx St. Jude Classic just down the road at TPC Southwind.

Notable professionals in the field include Scott Brown, Andres Romero, Matt Jones, Steve Stricker, Robert Garrigus, Troy Merritt, Chez Reavie, Harris English, Heath Slocum, Ben Crane, Brian Gay, Willy Wilcox, Retief Goosen, Spencer Levin, Andres Gonzales, Brian Campbell, J.J. Henry, Andrew Loupe and Cody Gribble among others. There are 108 players in total at the Germantown site, and they’re fighting for 9 spots in the U.S. Open field. You can follow along with the action live here.
