The best super game-improvement irons of 2017

Steelhead_XR_Irons_Comparison_Back

Just like with players irons and game-improvement irons before them, we want to know what WRXers think are the best super game-improvement sticks are. Check out the thread for the details on how to share you impressions and be tallied for our Members’ Choice Award. See the thread.

Why do you play X?

Titleist716Ap2

The thread in question focuses on Titleist equipment. However, we could extend the question to other manufacturers as well. Why do you play what you do? A great (and essential) golf discussion. See the thread.

Clubs (in your bag) you avoid

ChrisWoodWITB2017

We’ve talked at length in FTF about the clubs that have stuck around in your set forever, your favorite club to hit, etc. Now the opposite end of the spectrum. What club do you find yourself staying away from in your set? And don’t say there isn’t one, unless you’re a competitive golfer, you almost certainly reach for the 3-iron rather than the 5-wood, let’s say, because you prefer it, or vice versa.

Great discussion of a phenomenon that plagues almost all of us. See the thread.

Remarks on Nicklaus’ remarks

nicklaus

You can be forgiven if, amid the madness of the DUI Tiger narrative and continued revelations, you didn’t catch any of the highlights of Jack Nicklaus’ customary pre-Memorial press conference. Needless to say, the Golden Bear didn’t take kindly to Rory McIlroy’s initial commit-to-play-then-withdraw routine.

No shortage of interesting opinions on what the 18-time major champ had to say. See the thread.

Golf book collectors, unite!

Come for the discussion about expanding your golf book collection, stay for the pictures of stellar texts, many vintage, and just as many bearing signatures and personal inscriptions for GolfWRXers. See the thread.

1 Had the 2015 callaway big bertha irons…
They sucked, heads came unglued all the time and had bad hot spots. Eventually ended up the gmax 8-pw after playing g and i25… love em! I like the sf tec in em cuz I know the ball will never go left
2 I’ll always play Ping cuz of left hand options
    3 Try to avoid the U wedge…
Always seems to catch it barely heavy

Forum Thread of the Day: “Most forgiving driving iron?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from aceo36 who asks fellow members for their choice of most forgiving driving iron. Plenty of different driving irons receive a mention, with Srixon’s U65 proving to be one of the most popular choices.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Jwin323: “I just got a Ping G410 Crossover 2, and it’s pretty forgiving. Very easy to hit off the deck because of its sole camber.”
  • thekiwii: “The bigger, the more forgiving. The ping crossover series is probably the biggest. Adams DHy is very under the radar and underrated. You can hunt one down for cheap. Titleist TMB is small, but it has tungsten weighting to increase the forgiveness.”
  • arobbins3: “I play the Srixon U65, and it’s the most forgiving one I’ve played (T-MB, Taylormade, etc.).”
  • ScottJN: “I picked up the u85 on a whim, got the stock recoil shaft and it flies higher than I’d like on a typical shot.  However, the club is so easy to hit and an automatic 250 off the tee (2iron).”

Forum Thread of the Day: “How will Brooks Koepka’s 24lb weight loss affect his 2019 on the course?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from Holy Moses who began the thread discussing Brooks Koepka’s recent weight loss which is rumored to be for an ESPN photo shoot. Koepka has stated how he is “out of sorts” on the course recently due to him dropping 24lbs, and our members have been speculating on the impact it could have on his season.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • MattyO1984: “Crazy that he would try and change his body so much for a photo shoot. If he were a model, you could understand it but as a golfer, who relies on his body being able to do what he needs it to do it’s madness and more than a little vain as well.”
  • Cool Runnings: “So Brook’s has lost 24lbs, and his driving/swing is suffering, isn’t this the opposite of what the ‘so called experts’ were religiously stating about players bulking up and it impeding their driving/swing. Yet more proof they’re talking about topics above their pay-grade”
  • Holy Moses: “Well, Brooks has been wondering why he hasn’t been getting media attention. He’s come out of his shell lately. Good for him.”

Forum Thread of the Day: “Sexy, slick, minimal irons?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from Glowbal who is on the lookout for sexy, slick, minimal irons ala Scratch Golf’s old SB-1 iron set. Clean, as little branding or markings as possible and lofts instead of numbers on the club, are all the things Glowbal wants from an iron set, and our members have been on hand sharing their suggestions.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Fried Slice: “National Custom Works are Scratch. Same grinders and owners I believe. I’m sure they can hook you up. http://www.nationalcustomworks.com
  • 11forgedblades: “When I was looking for irons without any logo, Geotech blades only had the numbers on them…completely blank.”
  • ivygynonc: “I have a set of Kyoei MB’s black.  They are nicer than my BBs as far as feel and looks.  Look great at set up.  Can’t go wrong with these.  And they are on the low end as far as costs for JDM blades, at least they were when I bought mine.”
  • kmay: “Another for National Custom works, incredible products, and from what I see watching there IG every day, they will make them to your exact requests, any stamping you want (or don’t) any shape muscle you want, sole grinds you want, seems like everything can be customized starting from forged blanks. True craftsmen.”
