In honor of honoring parents, as it were, Craftsman Golf is giving away two “Sumo” driver covers (Father’s Day) and two “Petals” driver covers (Mother’s Day), as well as two “Sakura” covers.

Of course, Craftsman’s excellent crafts aren’t limited to driver headcovers, as they make covers for every club in the bag, as well as ball markers, pouches, and Sunday bags. They’re also ready, willing, and able to make you a custom headcover.

So, how do you get in on the contest?

Go to www.craftsmangolf.com and pick your favorite headcover. Then, in a post in the thread, include the following:

  • A screenshot of your favorite Craftsman headcover design.
  • Which headcover design you would like to win.

That’s it. Winners selected at random. Good luck!

What GolfWRXers are saying are the top-3 underrated blade head designs circa 2005

Published

on

@jfp2112

GolfWRXers have been discussing the top-3 underrated blade head designs circa 2005 after forum member ‘8620’ created a thread with a desire to “build a set that starts with a ‘retro’ blade head, that incorporates a modern shaft (Nippon Modus Pro 130)”. Our members have weighed in on the subject, with some inspired by ‘8620’ to follow suit in his project.

Here are what our members are saying on the subject, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below,

  • Gopher68: “Bridgestone J33 blades.”
  • BCULAW: “Mizuno MP67. Awesome blade that never really caught on due to the popularity of its predecessor (MP33) and its sister offering (MP32). Also, the small ‘cut muscle’ gives it a bit of an old school vibe like the old Wilson bullet backs.”
  • Golfingfanatic: “OG Nike Forged Blades.”
  • cardoustie: “Bridgestone MB’s, love my J15’s.”
  • OldTomMorris: “I’ve got a set of mp-37 irons that I am putting TT DG AMT white S300 shafts in right now. Curious to see if I can keep the short irons lower than my current set of irons.”
  • Rapidcat: “This interests me as I played Mizuno SPL blades for a decade and still have the heads in very good condition, thinking about a reshaft for them to have some fun.”

What GolfWRXers with a 5-handicap or lower are saying about the irons they currently play

Published

on

Following the interesting discussion over irons for players with a 10-handicap and up between WRXers, forum member ‘golfer55082’ has kicked off a conversation on irons for players with a 5-handicap or better.

The discussion includes players with a scratch and plus handicap, with ‘golfer55082’ asking members what irons they currently play, while also keeping an updated running table of his findings.

Here’s a look at the table of his findings after 34 initial responses:

  • Ping 7
  • Mizuno 7
  • Titleist 5
  • Callaway 5
  • Srixon 3
  • Miura 2
  • TaylorMade 1
  • Cobra 1
  • Nike 1
  • Yonex 1
  • Adams 1

Here’s what our members have been saying in the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • trex858: “0.7 handicap. Srixon z785 3-PW with UST Mamiya prototype 110 f5 X graphite shafts. Best shafts I’ve ever played, can’t begin to rave how much more consistent, lower spin, and stable they feel compared to other steel shafts I’ve used. Expensive, but well worth it for my game.”
  • SniperBBB: “Mizuno jpx 900 hot metals.”
  • Hit em good: “2 – 4 cap depending on season. 5 – PW Mizuno MP 64. 3 & 4 iron Mizuno MP Fli Hi (2010 model) in 3.”
  • TrueWRX: “3-4 handicap. 2014 Callaway apex pros w/ c taper stiff forever. Just got the new Titleist T100-S w/ LZ 6.0. Haven’t tried them yet.”
  • Stinger86: “2 cap : Blueprint project x lz 6.5”
  • DCardinals: “4.1 index. Titleist 718 AP2 X100. Sitting in the closet is a set of Mizuno MP-63’s that I’m probably going to put back in play this season; the AP2’s are easy to hit, but they just go too high.”
  • HighDrawsLowFades: “+1.6. Ping i210 4-U with DG 120 S300. I’m not the greatest ballstriker and these are perfect for me.”

Today from the Forums: “Forgiving 18-degree utility iron?”

Published

on

Today from the Forums, we take a look at a discussion on utility irons. WRXer ‘mark98ca’ is on the hunt for an 18-degree utility iron and has asked fellow members for their opinions on what is the most forgiving option on the market, with a variety of models getting a recommendation.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Golf64: “Ping Crossover, Titleist U-500 and Wilson staff for me.”
  • mootrail: “From the tee, the Srixon Z U45. Forged, butter, soft, and long. The squared-off fat sole is clunky and not the best from the fairway. I’d guess ditto for the U65, but I didn’t like my U85 at the new higher D4 SW. From the fairway, the Cobra King Utility Black One. Large sweet spot forged face and the seven iron length makes center contact and play from the turf a breeze. The sole-turf interaction is the best of any of the many DI / UIs I’ve tried. Of course, you’re going to give up yardage, but there is the full-size one as well. What’s more forgiving? A 20° Utility or higher. Plus if you go up in loft, there are a lot of long and easy SGI / GI irons out there with quite a few making it into tour player’s bags.”
  • dekez: “Cobra F6 Baffler. An ultimate utility club. You can hit it like a 5 wood or like a hybrid. From any lie.”
  • wam78: “My top 3 that I tried this year are U85, mp 20 hmb and u500. Currently playing the u500 and absolutely love it. It was the best looking to my eye, and it fit my gap better than the other ones.”
  • QuigleyDU: “The cobra King Utility irons has been my favorite club the last two years.”
