Bubba Watson apologizes for “bad joke” bashing golf writer

Published

on

If you’re wondering why you haven’t seen Bubba Watson on the Masters telecast this weekend, it’s because…he’s not playing in the Masters this weekend. The two-time green jacket-winner fired rounds of 74-78 to miss the cut for the first time in his career.

Needless to say, the mercurial Mr. Watson wasn’t particularly happy about the outcome.

Gene Sapakoff of the Charleston Post and Courier asked Watson, essentially, why he missed the cut. Here’s what he had to say, per Sapakoff on Twitter.

Also needless to say, the reaction to Watson’s remarks wasn’t exactly positive. And as he’s done after previous dust-ups, Watson issued an apology, this time via a video on Twitter in which he called the remark a “bad joke.”

“What I was saying to the reporter is, ‘Golf is hard.’ So if he tried to play golf, it would be very tough. Writing an article is a little easier for him than it is for me. It was a joke.”

Here’s the videapology.

Bubba is a bubba, and that’s okay. Bubba needs to change his ball. It seems to have done him in. Other players will look at him, and stick with Titleist or other major brand, but not “Oooooh, I like the shiny colors” ball.

curious those criticizing bubba….if a reporter asks any professional athlete why they lost after recent loss you really thing the majority of them don’t give an FU to the reporter. its their job to ask good inciteful questions, and yet few actually do it. bubba should’ve just walked away. journalism is circling the drain and bubba doesn’t need to issue an apology because they are horrible at their job

So, were these “reactions” exclusively from members of the press? They can dish it out, but can’t take it. Pathetic.

Why appoligize? Seems everybody on the PC Planet has to appoligize. Bubba’s statement wasn’t that big of a deal. Why don’t reporters appoligize for stupid questions? Nope, they don’t. Why don’t reporters appoligize for asking the same stupid questions in a scrum? Nope, they don’t. I’m not a great Bubba fan, but to me, in this case, no appoligy neaded.

Pretty sure it’s more difficult to qualify for the Master, let alone win it, than write a poorly written article.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
