Russell Knox switches to Srixon Z565 driver in Austin

Published

on

Two-time PGA Tour champion Russell Knox has switched to a Srixon Z565 driver (10.5 degrees) this week at the 2017 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

At No. 21 in the Official World Golf Rankings, Knox is the highest-ranked golfer in the world using Srixon’s new driver, which debuted late last year and offers a larger club head and higher trajectory than Srixon’s Z765 driver.

Unlike the retail version of the Z565, Knox’s driver has a black face. According to a Srixon representative, all of the other features of the driver are the same.

Knox has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the OWGR since 2014. He started the year ranked 245th in the world using a Cleveland Classic XL Custom. He used that model until late last year, when he switched to TaylorMade’s M2.

Knox’s Z565 driver is adjusted to be 2 degrees open, which is the maximum open setting on the driver. His shaft is Aldila’s NV 2KXV Blue 60TX.

Great driver. I have the 565 with hzrdus black and really like it. I have a 9.5 set at 10.5 and don’t love how it closes the face, but it performs! Thinking about picking up a 765 this winter in a 10.5 when prices really come down. Have a couple of tips so I can try a few shafts. Already looking forward to 2018 season and hitting high bombs!

There is a slow but steady wave of switchers to Srixon.
Ok, a tour players club from any manufacturer will be effectively Custom made but the stuff on the shop floor from Srixon is super high quality.
I love the plain look of the drivers , which just won’t age. In 2 yrs time the used club bin will be full of carbon crown and turbulator festooned fashion clubs.
If you have a decent swing you will get a lot out of a Srixon 65 or prev 45 series , no one really needs all these daft looking space age drivers it’s all sales hype.

Spotted: Nate Lashley’s Ping PLD “Wolverine” putter

Published

on

Ping PLD putters have been a very common site on profesional tours. Pros seem to gravitate toward the PLD line’s custom options and precision milling. We have seen the PLD line expanded over the years, but we haven’t seen too many, if any, large mallets.

This week we spotted a PLD putter in Nate Lashley’s bag that has a similar look to the old Ping Wolverine head shape. This putter is a large mallet with the famous “claws” on the outside and oval center that housed the alignment aid.

Nick’s putter has the PLD logo on the back but also looks like it might have an insert installed on the face. It is hard to tell but at the address picture, it looks like the face is a lighter material than the rest of the putters. The putter is center-shafted and should be face-balanced with a high MOI for stability and forgiveness on mishits. The sole is completely milled and has no markings of name or technologies that might be present in the head. A single white site line is on the top of the putter for alignment.

Nick’s putter is finished off with a chrome steel shaft and a Super Stroke Zenergy Flatso 2.0 grip in black and white.
