Pat Perez claps back at the golf media: “You Don’t Know Me”

Published

on

Just last month, self-proclaimed straight shooter Pat Perez aired his less-than-flattering thoughts about Tiger Woods. Perez insinuated that Tiger was showing up to events to save face for his sponsors, and that Tiger himself didn’t truly believe he could beat anybody.

For a “gentleman’s game” rooted in integrity, those are big accusations.

Surely Perez isn’t alone in his views, but he was the first PGA Tour player to voice them publicly. When you take shots at Tiger, however, everyone takes notice. Just like that Perez went from a two-time PGA Tour champion and universally relatable guy to “the guy who called out Tiger Woods.”

Not to be labeled or placed in a bucket, Perez published a long-form piece in the Players Tribune on Wednesday describing who he really is and how the golf media doesn’t know the real him.

Perez details digging through the trash for cement gray Jordan 4s, beating Tiger Woods by eight strokes with a borrowed set of Ping Beryllium irons, working at Torrey Pines replacing divots, outdriving (kind of) John Daly with Daly’s driver at 16 years old, nearly dying in a car accident, losing his scholarship at Arizona State University and the influence that the Canadian Tour had on his ultimate success.

It’s abundantly clear in the article that Perez’s relationship with the media has always been a bit strained.

“The media often condense my entire career into a couple of moments,” Perez writes. “That stuff used to infuriate me.”

Now with a wife and a career full of success, Perez seems to be at peace with his place in the world. But don’t expect him to change anytime soon.

“Some of you may think that I’m a jerk,” Perez wrote. “But what I am is a straight shooter. My whole career — my whole life — has been packed into three or four moments, when there’s really so much more to it.”

So when asked about Woods in the future, you can still expect to hear what’s on Perez’s mind… but at least now you’ll know where he’s coming from.

Every loudmouth donkey I’ve ever met describes themselves as a “straight shooter”. Thanks for the confirmation.

Pat Perez….? I still can’t picture who he is. I’m going to need more information.

Are we suppose to have a pitty party for Pat growing up middle class? His dad worked at IBM and his mom was a realtor and he comes off like he was dirt poor.

My kids put me on to the Players Tribune a couple of years ago and frankly I’ve grown tired of the stories. This particular one from Pat Perez was one of the better ones. I really didn’t have a opinion on Perez , he’s had a rather quiet career in the PGA tour but I know he’s recently had surgery on his shoulder and has been playing well lately. His upbringing was similar to mine, but in a different sport. I’ve been to a number of Canadian tour events and he’s spot on with the dynamic of certain players. Good for him. He’s earned his position.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
