Tuesday’s Photos from the 2017 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play

Published

GolfWRX is live this week from the 2017 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play at Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas. The course (par 71, 7,108 yards) was designed by Pete Dye and is hosting the WGC Match Play event for the second straight season.

Unlike the NCAA March Madness style-format, the WGC Match Play now begins with 16 groups of four players competing in round-robin matches. Then the winners from each group advance to the single-elimination portion, where matches are played until a winner emerges.

This year’s field consists of the four top-ranked golfers in the world: Dustin Johnson (No. 1), Rory McIlroy (No. 2), Jason Day (No. 3) and Hideki Matsuyama (No. 4). Last year, Day bested Louis Oosthuizen 5&4 in the finals to take home the 2016 WGC Match Play trophy.

To remedy this, show them in the playing position more often. Even in magazines (hot list, etc) they rarely show what the club actually looks like in the playing position (i.e. behind the ball). To me that’s much more important than the cosmetic design of the back of the club. For example, it was nice to see a few shots of Rory’s irons in the playing position.

Would be nice to get some views of the clubs in the playing position (showing offset, topline, etc.) It’s amazing how such a high percentage of clubs shown are viewed and assessed using the back of the club (which has relatively minimal effect whatsoever on someone actually hitting the club).

But, that’s where all the advertising is.

Photos from the 2022 PGA Show

Published

GolfWRX was on site for the golf business’s annual winter rite: the PGA Merchandise Show.

While the weather was less than cooperative for demo day, there were no such difficulties inside the Orange County Convention Center. This isn’t to say there weren’t significant figurative headwinds influencing this year’s Show, but those are widely discussed elsewhere. Our duty here was merely to document, and that is what we did to the tune of more than 1,500 photos, below.

Enjoy!

Interesting photos from the Mallorca Open

Published

on

Thanks to our friends at SMS_on_Tour for sending along some shots from last week’s Mallorca Open at Golf Santa Ponsa.

Denmark’s Jeff Winther topped a trio of players at 14 under (and some trouble in a bathroom) to win.

Let’s take a look at some interesting photos!

First up, Ashley Chesters with a Nike Vapor Fly 5-wood in the bag.

Twitter sensation Eddie Pepperell is one of the few pros we’ve spotted with a TaylorMade 300 Mini Driver in play.

Scott Hend’s wedges feature some fantastic stamping.

An original White Hot 2-Ball in the wild. The real OG!

Mitsubishi Kai’li (which officially launched today) spotted here.

Scott Hend with the pink paintfill on his Toulon Palm Beach.

Jazz Janewattanond’s wedge stamping never disappoints (even if often confounds)
