Under Armour launches new Spieth One golf shoes
Jordan Spieth, a two-time major champion and undoubtedly one of golf’s biggest stars, made waves in the golf apparel world by sporting Under Armour’s UA Drive One golf shoes in 2015 and 2016. The shoes were often referred to as the “Jordan Spieths,” and received positive reviews here on GolfWRX.
On Tuesday, Under Armour announced that Spieth is starting a world tour to promote a shoe officially made in his namesake, the “Spieth One.” The promotional tour begins in Tokyo, then continues onto Seoul, South Korea, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mexico City. According to the company, Spieth worked closely with the Under Armour footwear team in the development of the shoes.
“I couldn’t be more excited to officially unveil my first signature shoe, the Spieth One, with Under Armour,” Spieth said in a press release. “I worked closely with the Under Armour footwear team to design an innovative shoe that is grounded in the details of my game. The opportunity to unveil my signature shoe with the amazing fans here in Tokyo is extremely humbling and an experience I will never forget.”
Technically speaking, the shoes offer a waterproof upper, what the company calls “Rotational Resistence Traction” to prevent slipping throughout the swing, a one-seam upper that reduces weight and enhances the fit of the shoe and has a “Dual durometer outsole,” which means there’s a softer forefoot for flexibility but a firm heel for stability. Under Armour says the shoes are engineered “down to a science,” comparing the shoes design with how Spieth attacks a golf course: scientifically.
It’s clear from the photos provided by Under Armour that the shoes use a form of BOA’s lace system that does not require golfers to tie their shoes, but rather just twist a knob to find the right fit.
“This is an exciting moment for the Under Armour brand and the UA Golf category,”said Kevin Ross, General Manager, Global Golf, Under Armour. “We’re honored to introduce the Spieth One on the first stop of the 2017 Spieth One Global Tour. With engaging activations, unique cultural experiences and more, we are showcasing Jordan’s love of the game and Under Armour’s commitment to providing world-class product, all while driving the game of golf forward on a global scale.”
The Spieth One golf shoes will be available at retail on March 1 for $200, and a limited-edition version of the shoe will be available today in Japan on the company’s Japanese site.

Those don’t look to bad in the front but as the eyes wander to the heel those are not pretty shoes. Why is UU not making the logo bit BIGGER. Give me a break.

$200 for an absolutely hideous pair of shoes? No thanks.

Totally agree. At this price point the show overall will sit on the shelf. Is Under Armour really joining the “grow the game” campaign at this price point?

$200 shoes are not “driving the game of golf forward on a global scale.” Good grief.
