Harris English signs equipment contract with Ping, apparel deal with Nike

Published

on

Two-time PGA Tour winner Harris English has signed an agreement to play Ping equipment.

English, 27, was previously a Ping staffer before signing with Callaway in 2014. Both his PGA Tour wins came as a Ping staffer (the 2013 FedEx St. Jude Classic and 2014 OHL Classic at Mayakoba), and he used Ping clubs at the University of Georgia where he was a four-time All-American.

English is currently the 76th ranked golfer in the Official World Golf Rankings. He will use the following Ping equipment this week at the Sony Open, according to the company:

  • Driver: Ping G
  • Fairway Woods: Ping G
  • Irons: Ping iBlade
  • Wedges: Glide 2.0
  • Putter: Ping Cadence TR Ketsch

“We’re very excited to welcome Harris back to the Ping team,” Ping Chairman and CEO John A. Solheim said. “Our relationship dates back to his junior golf days and throughout his distinguished college career at the University of Georgia. We watched his pro career advance quickly from the Web.com Tour to the PGA Tour, where he won twice as a Ping professional. He has a wonderful all-around game and he’s a proven winner. He’s a great addition to our staff.”

As part of the agreement, English will use a Ping staff bag and play a minimum of 11 Ping clubs including a Ping driver and Ping putter.

“It feels great to have a PING bag with my name on it again,” English said. “I’m very excited to be a member of the PING tour staff and to get the season started this week in Honolulu. I have a lot of comfort and confidence with the clubs in my bag and the people at PING who design and build them for me. Their focus on engineering the highest-performing equipment gives me the best chance to play my best golf.”

A social media post from Ping also indicates that English has signed a head-to-toe apparel deal with Nike (he can be seen wearing Nike golf shoes and a Nike hat), although Nike is yet to announce a partnership with the golfer.

Spotted: Nate Lashley’s Ping PLD “Wolverine” putter

Published

on

Ping PLD putters have been a very common site on profesional tours. Pros seem to gravitate toward the PLD line’s custom options and precision milling. We have seen the PLD line expanded over the years, but we haven’t seen too many, if any, large mallets.

This week we spotted a PLD putter in Nate Lashley’s bag that has a similar look to the old Ping Wolverine head shape. This putter is a large mallet with the famous “claws” on the outside and oval center that housed the alignment aid.

Nick’s putter has the PLD logo on the back but also looks like it might have an insert installed on the face. It is hard to tell but at the address picture, it looks like the face is a lighter material than the rest of the putters. The putter is center-shafted and should be face-balanced with a high MOI for stability and forgiveness on mishits. The sole is completely milled and has no markings of name or technologies that might be present in the head. A single white site line is on the top of the putter for alignment.

Nick’s putter is finished off with a chrome steel shaft and a Super Stroke Zenergy Flatso 2.0 grip in black and white.
