How much have you spent on your current gamer bag?

Embarrassed? Proud? Merely contributing to the gathering of data? There are many reasons WRXers have added to the thread Griff721 started back in 2008. And with 53 pages of replies and going strong, this thread is one of the archives.

Back in 2008, Griff estimated he’d sunk $2,100 into his current setup (which included a Cleveland HiBore, remember them?). To see how things have changed (or haven’t) since then, and what the majority of the community spends on artillery, check out this awesome thread.

Golf brands as car companies

Titleist-Logo1

Nobody said Saturn? C. Howard started this entertaining, amusing, and dare we say, thoughtful, thread trying to equate major OEMs to car companies. Here are a couple of his takes, which you may or may not agree with.

Titleist – Mercedes Benz: High-end budget buster. Just like Mercedes, you don’t see an affordable one unless it is old. Heck, look at the 915 just getting price cut to $350! Titleist positioned themselves as the brand you want to attain some day (at least in my case).

Taylormade – Ford: Okay, I debated a couple companies, but I was reminded of the F150. Ford sells an F150 every 30 seconds and is all about quantity. They don’t match Taylormade’s desire for new models every 6 months, but still seems like a fit.

Nike – Kia/Hyundai: That younger company that had issues with quality for a long time, but is pushing to become a high-end brand. Sleek modern looks and trying to defeat the view from the masses.

You’ll want to see what the rest of the community is saying, and now that you’ve been exposed to the question, you’ll have no choice but to play the matching game yourself.

Circle-Ts galore!

WRXer Mitchell’s Circle-T Laguna

Some GolfWRXers have museum-quality collections of golf equipment, and among the most superb pieces on the market (sort-of) currently: Scotty Cameron tour-issued putters. There’s not really much to say about this thread of WRXers’ Circle-Ts other than check out this NSFW golfporn immediately. (rebby’s in the featured image)

See the putters.

Three “most talented” golfers in the game?

michellewie

Here’s a hot debate: Who are the three most naturally talented golfers playing right now?

JD3, who started the thread, offered Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson, and Michelle Wie.

What do you think? Join the debate.

Forum Thread of the Day: “What’s your bunker play set up?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from Tmiller72 who asks fellow members to share their bunker play set up. From loft and bounce, as well as discussing different scenarios, our members share and discuss their philosophy and different strategies for when they are in the sand.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • ChipNRun: “I use my 54/12 SW. I try to keep my weight even on both feet, so I don’t dig in too much. Also…If I need to get it up really quick, it’s the 60/10. If the sand is wet and hard-packed, I’ll pick it off the top with a PW.”
  • Evilduckhunter: “Short ones or short sided is the TM Hi Toe 60 10 with four way sole. Longer shots it’s the Cleveland RTX4 56 10 full grind. I did give the 56 some heel and trailing edge relief.”
  • Joelsim: “Mack Daddy 4 58* X Grind, weight 75% on front foot, clubface very open, full swing with lots of speed. For longer bunker shots, i.e. over 20 feet, I use a lower lofted club, which one depends on the distance. Same full stroke every time.”
  • PlayfromtheBrain: “Vokey 60.06 K-grind (low bounce). I enjoy using it anywhere from about 90 yards and in, though the sand is where the grind really proves its worth. The wide sole pretty much guarantees a decent or better out for me. It’s great around the green, and I have no problem opening it up for different shots. Definitely has inspired confidence. This type of grind demands near perfect contact, but there isn’t a more versatile wedge than one with a wide sole and lower bounce.

Forum Thread of the Day: “The conduct of the spectators at Bethpage Black”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from Pauly567 who expressed his disapproval of the behavior of some spectators at the PGA Championship. Our members have been discussing the conduct of some of the spectators at Bethpage Black, and whether they feel that their behavior is acceptable, as well as what could occur when the course plays host to the 2024 Ryder Cup.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Ashley Schaeffer: “I don’t weigh in on crowd issues often, but this is on another level. I am very confused by the motivation of the New Yahker crowd in displaying these antics. Do the loudmouths think they are being funny? Do they not get enough attention in their personal lives? It’s honestly puzzling how one locale can produce so many incredibly annoying fans, and be somewhat celebrated for it. “Well, that’s just the New York crowd, hehehe” is misguided. We shouldn’t hand out passes for being obnoxious based on location.”
  • LeoLeo99: “Other than the 18th tee, didn’t hear any hooligans out on the course. They made Willett laugh so much serenading him with Danny Boy on the 18th tee that he threw them a ball. All good fun. Phil gave my wife a high 5 and Tony Finau autographed some stuff for wife and me. Almost no mud on course. Perfect weather. Very organized getting people to/ from the course and in the huge merchandise tent. If you go, you’ll do some walking.”
  • Dave230: “There’s no other sport you can get as close to the stars as in golf. If a player hit a ball into the rough, you can watch it happen from two yards behind them; it’s unique. It’s sad how people abuse that privilege. I never like when people compare it to getting abuse from crowds in other sports, it’s done from a distance and in an arena setting, it’s much easier to drown it out. If you’re at work and there’s lots of stuff going on in the office you can work. If there’s one person in your ear talking all the time, you’re going to be distracted.”
  • NoodleSalad: “What I find interesting is that despite all this talk about how atrocious the fans are, not a single pro has complained about them in post-round interviews. I’ve read all of the interviews, and no one has a negative thing to say. Odd isn’t it? Although Spieth credited them with helping him sink a birdie putt on 8: ‘Yeah, the crowd is yelling out that no one has got it to the hole yet and DJ hits it, and it kind of breaks less than it looks. I had a read, plus the crowd is hollering that everyone has left it short, so I just went off a little bit lower line than what DJ had, and luckily I was able to see that. You just try to get the right speed for the green and certainly it’s a bonus when it drops.’

Forum Thread of the Day: “Ball in the thick rough – what club to use?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from jjfcpa who asks fellow members what their preferred choice of club is when their ball is in thick rough. A variety of irons and hybrids are mentioned by our members who delve into the discussion of course management.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • RainShadow: “For me, that sot would be a 7 iron, open the face a little and play a runner up to the front of the green. Open face will help a bit with getting stuck in the grass.”
  • golfgirlrobin: “Club choice depends on whether you’re willing to accept a bogey or whether you insist on making double.”
  • ChipNRun: “I would try a hinge and hold action. Take a half swing with plenty of hinge action and punch down on the ball with limited follow-through. Use the big muscles of the shoulders – you don’t want to hurt yourself trying to muscle it. Probably choose something between a PW and a 7i. You’ll need to hold firmly with L hand, so the grass doesn’t wrap around the hosel and deloft the club face.”
  • kcd38: “If it is 200 plus from the green and a decent lie, hybrid. If it is less than 200 from the green and sunk down a little, I usually go with my 8 iron and play the face slightly open knowing the grass will grab the hosel and shut the face. Definitely need some speed to get out of the thick stuff.”
