PGA Tour player goes on Twitter rant, chews out American Airlines

Published

on

You may know John Peterson as a former standout All-American golfer at LSU, or you recognize him from the 2012 U.S. Open where he finished T4, or more likely, as the guy who Happy Gilmore’d on the first tee of the CIMB Classic. Now, he may be remembered as the guy who chewed out American Airlines for losing his bag.

Peterson flew American Airlines from Dallas to Houston for a charity event. His bags did not arrive that day. Or the next day. Or the next day. And as the time of this story being published, they have still not arrived.

We’ve all been there. The airline loses your bag en route to vacation or a business trip. What do you do now? Buy new clothes? Rent golf clubs? And Peterson is far from the first person, or even Tour player, to call out an airlines for losing a bag on Twitter.

But this was a rant for the ages, with high-class insults like “doofus” and “helmets.” For anyone who’s lost a bag while traveling, use this as a blueprint of how not to react, and rather live vicariously through Peterson’s Tweets instead.

Check out some of the highlights, or rather lowlights, below.

AA stole my $400 leather coat during plane change at DFW,had 2 physically open suit bag 2 check it out, that was 1980, evidently the bar is not 2 high 2 high to there!

As a rule of thumb, you should wait till your bag is returned before berating them. It can heavily affect the return time. I travel extensively (Southwest domestic) with my clubs and rarely have a bag not turn up. When they don’t, I’m always polite and understanding. That way they do everything they can to get them to me.

I wonder if Peterson will parlay this into a sponsorship deal with Ship Sticks!!

the blame absolutely goes to AA, yet Pederson will be just fine. You or me and we get stuck without clubs and have to buy new. Even southwest won’t replace or pay for broken clubs when you travel. Hire better people that actually treat

Thousands and thousands of bags per day get checked and flown all over the world. Its a wonder more don’t go missing. with theft, employees who don’t care, and honest mistakes,…..these things happen. There should be a penalty to the airline more than simply saying sorry.

Fly from Dallas to Houston? Dude, it’s a 5 hour drive, with no TSA lines (or groping). If you’ve got the time it’s a much better option, with more control.

And if he had to fly, why not Southwest out of Love Field? More flights, probably cheaper, and better (IMO) service.

Agreed. I’ve done that drive a half dozen times and each time it only took me just under 4hrs…

He’s a professional golfer. He can’t be wasting time packing a car and driving for 5 hours when he can hop on a plane and be there in a half hour.

He’s got a job to do.

I’m glad u live next to the airport but most have to drive an hour to get there. With security, checkin, baggage claim, I think you are easily right up against the 4hr number.

He should be happy he is not flying EgyptAir on a regular basis. When was AA hijacked last time?

since when do the airlines run security? security is TSA in the states, aka gov. which airline is inconsequential

I’ve had my bags lost more than once on a short, direct AA flight. They are the absolute worst. I do think his rant was a little childish, though. If he’d put this much effort into winning more events he’d be able to fly NetJets instead…just sayin.

Well, he was barely able to finish the season last year due to medical issues and is taking a medical leave year this year. He will have a full status tour card next season, but right now, he’s not bringing in any money.

Suck it up dude. Perspective. You got to your destination alive and well. There is nothing that you lost that is not replaceable. BTW you fair better the amateur who losses his clubs. Yours will be replaced free from your sponsors.

Yeah they lose your golf clubs on a thirty minute non-stop flight – so what? Stick to the things that really matter – like their new LOGO!!! Don’t you just love their new logo?? That fixes everything doesn’t it?

    Hey erlybrd,

American Airlines does suck. They are one of the worst airlines around. If the CEO was smart, he would have gotten on the phone immediately and handled this one personally. It doesn’t take a lot of time, but it shows care about the passengers.

American Airlines is a contractor for the military and they are worthless. There are a ton of delays, lost baggage, cancelled flights, and other stuff that is preventable.

This is the issue, most problems are preventable. If the employees don’t care and are providing piss poor service, then that is the airlines fault. Obviously they aren’t trying to build a good team, but instead are just trying to fill spots to get planes in the air.

    • mlecuni

      May 19, 2016 at 4:24 am

Do you really think that a CEO of a big company should spend his time on phone with a customer ?

      • Scooter McGavin

        May 19, 2016 at 2:09 pm

Jim is that entitled customer that expects that sort of thing. The President or CEO is busy working a 12 hour day creating partnerships with other organizations and charting the path of the multi-billion dollar corporation, but Jim thinks he should drop what he’s doing and waste his time calling a customer having a tantrum. Jim probably also uses the phrase “the customer is always right” and yells at his kids’ teachers when they get a bad grade.

          May 19, 2016 at 5:42 pm

Bet the CEO of Comcast wishes he had spent 5 minutes on the phone with a customer instead of having the customer release the recording of a call.

I think the airline cares. It’s their employees who can’t be bothered. When I board any flight with my clubs I sit by a window where I can see the baggage crew throw/hurl my clubs into the baggage hold. At least I know they got on the plane. Whether they’re broken or not is another matter. And whether any Titleists are left in my zippered pouch is debatable, too.

  18. Jack

    May 18, 2016 at 1:32 pm

It is 2016 and with the inexpensive technology available, it is inexcusable for airlines to lose bags and to lose them for days/weeks at a time. They don’t really give a damn and neither do their employees.

  19. erlybrd

    May 18, 2016 at 1:11 pm

While we all understand the frustration for this type of mishap associated with air travels, it isn’t necessary to openly denounce the airline in such tone displayed. Nonetheless, this is a display of how a man handles not so perfect everyday situation. So what’s his scrambling stats?

While it’s not totally necessary, do you realize how many free drink coupons, miles, and free flights he’ll get out of them to take down the tweets? It’s a lot.

Sad thing is this is the only way to handle it. Corporations do not fear one customer being peeved – they fear the backlash on social media for how they treated the one customer who was willing to publicize their experience

      • Tom

        May 19, 2016 at 7:48 pm

corporations didn’t take his bag. A baggage handler did. Baggage handlers work for airports not an corporation.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
