FTF: Additions to the rules of golf? Playing partner pet peeves?

Published

on

The GolfWRX forums exist so golfers have access to the latest equipment releases, hottest discussions, real equipment reviews, best instruction, new technologies and everything golf you can imagine. So if you love golf, the GolfWRX forums are your sanctuary.

In the From the Forums weekly feature, we bring you the hottest, most buzz-worthy topics from our forums for your convenience. I’ll be your trusty tour guide to navigate the latest buzz. Here’s a peek behind the curtain into golf’s sanctuary.

What rules would you add to the Rules of Golf?

2014USGA-Decisions-on-Rules-of-Golf

FinleySG writes: Seriously, are there any additional rules you would add to the rule book? I actually have two.

  1. Lines on the ball are no longer allowed. Golf ball manufacturers may not apply their logo in a straight line. Players may not draw a line longer than 1/4″ on the ball.
  1. Caddies may not align their player. No caddie is allowed to stand behind the player when s/he addresses the ball.

Interesting potential additions. And even in an environment of relaxed rules initiatives, these make sense as their violation undermines the spirit of other rules. What do you think? Let us know in the thread.

Giveaway: What driver shaft are you playing?

post-1164-0-66086400-1462475684

For the folks that signed up for our Equipment Testing Panel, we present a great giveaway. Answer the following questions in this thread, and you could be one of five winners chosen:

  • What’s the current driver model you’re playing?
  • What shaft are you gaming? (manufacturer, model, flex, weight, tipping)
  • What’s your current ball flight?
  • Average driving distance?
  • Are you happy with this current shaft?
  • If chosen, do you agree to test the new shaft and participate in an ongoing review thread with other GolfWRX members?

Playing partner pet peeves?

PlayingPartnerGolf

You can’t tell them, so why not tell us? Credit to JD3 kicking off this thread so that we can air our grievances about our playing partners. He mentions golfers that leave price stickers on their clubs as particularly bothersome. Another user said golfers who choose clubs hoping for miracles, rather than something more realistic, irk him.

Me? How about when you hit, look over, and the next member up in your group is yet to start his elaborate pre-shot routine… Share your playing partner pet peeves.

WRX’s favorite pros

CharleyHoffman

Here’s an interesting thread started by Arpeggi begging the question: Which golfers do GolfWRX forum readers love? Here are a few, and see who else WRXers love.

  • Justin Rose
  • Louis Oozthuisen
  • Brooks Koepka
  • Danny Willett
  • Charley Hoffman

Rory’s outfit

Rory-Joggers

The GolfWRX forums aren’t often the place for hot fashion-related threads (and they’re better for it, certainly). But Rory’s outfit at the first round of The Players has generated some discussion (as Nike surely hoped it would). The jogger era may be upon us.

With 80 replies in the first five hours since posting, GolfWRX members have a lot to say about Mr. McIlroy’s attire. Weigh in.

Seriously it takes forever for some players to line up their ball. Put it down and putt already . And nice pants Can’t wait to buy a pair if I was twenty. It’s the new line of pants looks good on the flat bellies not on fat guys.

i have a playing partner that will hit it off into the desert and then literally remove every rock, pebble within a 3 inch radius around the ball. He ends up with a lie that is way better than the center of the fwy.
He also taps the sole of his wedge behind his ball when hes in the bunker. He thinks nobody sees this and we all just shake our heads.

You can move all the rocks you want unless it is a water hazard. Also the ball cannot move and you cannot take up any soil just rocks, leaves etc.

Wow, I did not realize that the line on my golf ball was holding the guys in front of me up so much that it was causing me to wait on every single shot – except the putt when I use the line on my golf ball.

It’s the all guys in front of you that has to line up their putts to the line on their ball then readjust that line that is holding everybody up.

Of all the possible rules to add, why would you want to make the game harder by preventing golfers from marking a line on their ball?

….” Lines on the ball are no longer allowed. Golf ball manufacturers may not apply their logo in a straight line. Players may not draw a line longer than 1/4? on the ball.” Seriously? There are too many other thing s in the game that need attention.

Forum Thread of the Day: “Most forgiving players iron made within the past 5 years?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from moorebaseball who is on the hunt for the most forgiving players iron on the market from the last five years. Our members offer their suggestions to moorebaseball, with Ping’s S55 irons proving to be a popular recommendation.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • dpb5031: “Ping S55s if you prefer a more compact head, or the i200s if you want a slightly larger profile. Both are excellent, very forgiving “player’s” irons that have been used extensively on multiple Tours.”
  • WonIron: “I just bought my Second (backup) set of Adams forged XTD’s with stock KBS C-taper shafts for $160 on eBay. That was a good deal, but you can find them at $200 or better easy. Beautifully setup players look at address, forgiving and longer than the true blades I’ve been playing all my life.”
  • BigPapy: “Agreeing with others here on S55’s. Great clubs that most mid-cappers could play well.”
  • shakester: “Nike Vapor Pros or Pro Combos are a great set of irons that offer plenty of forgiveness.”

Forum Thread of the Day: “What’s your favorite fairway finder club and shot?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from dgarland, who asks fellow GolfWRX members what their go-to club and shot is when they must hit the fairway. Our members implement a range of clubs and different types of shots and techniques, and the thread gives a fascinating insight into the games of other golfers.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PingGuy68: “Usually a hybrid is good for me if finding fwy is in doubt.  But lately, I’ve been goofing around a bit with an eye 2 2-iron I bought on a whim.  It is surprisingly easy to hit.  Nice low flight with no curve, 200 yards for me.”
  • agolf1: “A bunt driver.  Grip down 1-2 inches, tee ball lower, and swing easy.  Style points, no.  Reasonably effective, yes. I just think the 460 cc head is a lot easier to hit (covers up mistakes) than a small headed fw or hybrid (I can still hit these clubs, but when something goes wrong then you are in the rough and way back from where you expected).”
  • FlyingLaw1: “I choke down a driver a couple of inches and move it back in my stance. Tee the ball down a little and basically swing it like a 5-iron. Goes about 15-20% shorter than a standard driver but I can’t miss with it.”
  • GolfTurkey: “Aim left and unleash a power fade. Sniping double cross hook finds the adjacent fairway every time.”

Forum Thread of the Day: Is it down or up from here for Jordan Spieth?

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from Danny Choo, who began the thread where he predicted that Jordan Spieth’s worst stretch of golf is still to come. After Sunday’s meltdown from Spieth, which saw the three-time major champion shoot a final-round 81 at the Genesis Open, the thread has been lit up by our members who are keen to discuss the reason behind Spieth’s current slump.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Tend to believe today was rock bottom for Spieth. Nowhere to go but up from here. I am sure he will get it figured out.”
  • rafal: “He needs to make real changes here, not sorta kinda changes but in my golfing and caddying experience I think that while the duo has got things done in the past, he needs to move on and find someone else to work with.  I just see these blow-up holes and strange club choices and this incessant talking and gesturing as something his current caddie is an integral part of.  He needs a fresh person on the bag.”
  • OldTomMorris: “His big miss seems to be multiplying. Previously it wasn’t killing his round now it is. Of course, the putting looks ropey at times given the high bar he set, and it’s getting a lot of attention which won’t help. The shortish one he missed on 6 (I think it was 6) yesterday was disconcerting.”
  • bladehunter: “Definitely hard to watch. Mentally checked out after the shank. At least he’s stayed on the course.   Other top-level players have walked off the course in same or less severe situations. Clearly more mental work to do than I saw originally. But it has nothing to do with mechanics. This is all between the ears.”
