Zac Blair disqualified after he “hit his putter against his head”

Published

on

Zac Blair was disqualified from the Wells Fargo Championship during the second round after hitting himself in the head with his putter on hole No. 5, and holing out with the bent club. That’s against the rules, so his week at Quail Hollow was cut short, although at 7-over he was likely to miss the cut anyway.

With a touch of class, and a little self-deprecating humor, Blair sent a few Tweets in response to his display of anger at the Wells Fargo, and to explain what happened.

We just hope he wasn’t using the putter that he was given by Scotty Cameron earlier this week. No putter that beautiful deserves to be broken.

He is known for gaming some seriously beautiful putters — like this one, and this one — so it wouldn’t be a surprise. Whatever putter it was, we feel bad for it.

And we hope his head is OK, too.

So if he didn’t use the putter to hole out would he still have been disqualified ?

Agree with Troy here. We can only learn and move on.

I am not sure if he was DQ’d for a non-conforming club, It was more likely that he was DQ’d for modifying his club mid round. unless he really bent it that much.

Nice Scotty Cameron ad this “story” turned onto.

Because that’s just what Scotty is after, more ads. He don’t need no ads.

rhonda – you’re naive if you don’t see this as an ad. This is how online media are making their money now, with pop-ups being blocked and relatively low ad revenue from website banners. They get paid to incorprate an ad into an otherwise normal-sounding news story. And yes, Scotty of all people LOVES any publicity he can get. It’s the lifeblood of selling his products. WRX mods can swoop in here and tell me this wasn’t an ad, but there’s not a snowballs chance in you-know-where that I’ll believe it.

At least through all of that he was honest and reported it to an official. And guys lay off the author of the article he did use artistic license in other words he caught our attention and made us look and read. Nothing at all wrong with that

Yep, it’s a frustrating game and sometimes the emotions can get the better of you.

Hopefully it’s a lesson learned for the young man and it won’t happen again.

Well, the comments so far support concerns about illiteracy.

The title supports concerns about media sensationalism.

I believe he can game a bent putter all he wants, just has to smack him self in the head before the round starts and he’s all good. Can’t bend during round.

Don’t by it. Can’t remember the pros name but he threw his club in the water and wasn’t disqualified.

I think he was disqualified for bending the putter, not hitting himself in the head with it.

If it was, what is the rule defining “hitting yourself in the head”? Need to know so I don’t get DQed for hitting myself in the head with my driver after a wicked slice lol.

Apparently titles of news articles don’t have to state the truth either. Never would have read an artful that said “DQ’d for non conforming club” because that’s just too obvious. Waste my time trying to figure out why he was “DQ’d for hitting putter on his head”!

          • Steve

            May 8, 2016 at 5:31 pm

Well, if you would just read the article, you would’ve only had to waste about 2 minutes to figure out why he was DQ’d. That’s probably less time than it took you to complain about the article.

    Gaming a putter? Oh dear.

Now if he would have just used the Alignment Aid Pro, he would have known his putter was bent.

That’s against the rules? wow! HOW ASININE IS THIS GAME???

    • Asi

      You’re asinine

    • Steve

      May 6, 2016 at 5:00 pm

Did you even read the article? He was DQ’ed for using a non-conforming club (in this case, it was a bent putter), not actually because he “hit his putter against his head.”

      • Jabba the hut

        May 6, 2016 at 8:57 pm

The title is wrong. Article clearly reads DQ’d for hitting head with putter. If someone didn’t know the rules there first thought would be “what you can get DQ’d for hitting yourself with your clubs!”
The title of an article should always state the truth of the matter, not an eye catching false report…

        • Steve

          May 8, 2016 at 5:35 pm

While I agree that the title was misleading, any competent person would’ve realized that he didn’t actually get suspended for hitting himself in the head by taking 2 minutes to read the article. If you care enough about an article’s title to comment on the article, you should probably care enough to actually READ the article too.

Spanky, is it that difficult to get your head around it is illegal to use a non conforming club? how asinine is it that people would think using an illegal club would be legal
