Most hybrids go a good bit further than the same “number” iron, so I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s actually doing the job of the 3 iron rather than replacing the 4.

4 iron and 4 hybrid, I can guess why he would have both but just seems a little odd to me why not get ride of the iron and put another wedge in?

I know Stuard Trackman expert and the reasoning is he doesn’t hit the ball very high or very far. So coming out of the rough on long shots, he benefits from having an extra hybrid. More Single digets and mid caps should think of this option over 4 wedges

I do the same. I get a different (lower more penetrating ball flight with my 4i) than I do with my hybrid.

Agreed. My normal setup is 4 wedges (60,56,52,48) then on the top end I go from 5i to 4h(23 degree) to an 19 degreehybrid and then 15 degree 3w. I hit the 5i 185yds and the 4h right at 200yds but veryy high. When it is very windy out I drop the 52* wedge and the 4h and put in 4i and 3i. Lets me flight the ball better than the hybrid and my gap wedge doesn’t come into play as much because in the wind I tend to knock down my PW 48* or even 9i or 8i if it’s really windy. I’m a big believer in bag versatility and choosing sticks for conditions. My 4i and 3i are very handy in high winds even from 150-170yds if it’s into the teeth. much easier to knock down and wont ballon like a hybrid.

RG, Sounds like we have a bit different game, but almost the exact same bag set up including lofts. I am a bit longer, but I only carry a 5 iron on down. I use all hybrids at 24 (or 22 weather depending), 18, and 15. I use the old Adams PNT hybrids (tour version) which allow the workability and does not balloon.
