10 Revealing photos from the Valero Texas Open
GolfWRX was live this week from the 2016 Valero Open at TPC San Antonio. If you missed any of the photos from this week, make sure to browse the galleries below:
In the field this week is defending champion Jimmy Walker, Patrick Reed and Phil Mickelson, and plenty more of the top names in golf. World No. 2-ranked Jordan Spieth played last year in the Valero Texas Open, and finished in second place, but he’s busy bro-ing out super hard with his boys in the Bahamas. I suppose he’s earned the time off.
But anyway. Cook up your favorite Texas-style BBQ, strap spurs on your cowboy boots and let’s reveal some photos from Deep in the Heart of Texas (well, South-Central).
What’s so funny on your phone, guys?
*shows phone*
Wow, laughing at Ernie Els’ misfortunes with the putter at The Masters is super insensitive. Well, at least he putted well last week at the RBC Heritage and wouldn’t be too offended.
Right, Ernie?
Not amused, OK. Moving along.
Fourteen’s new mustard-yellow HI-877 utility clubs
Debuting these at the Valero Texas Open is an interesting move by Fourteen Golf. I thought mustard was more Carolina-style BBQ. They do look awesome, however, and appear to have some kind of weight-adjustability in the toe.
See what GolfWRX members are saying about the clubs here, and more new releases from Fourteen Golf.
Edel is just showing off now
David Edel is one of the best custom club makers in the business, and the genius behind Bryson DeChambeau’s science-project irons. Now, he brings out a torque-balanced E-3 putter with an insert featuring the logo drawn on an Etch A Sketch**?
Is there anything Edel can’t do?
**Not really.
(Don’t) Hook ’em Horns
A nice move here from Bevo, the University of Texas Longhorns mascot. Beautiful weight shift. Just remember to get that weight back to your left side so you don’t “hook em.”
For once, lefties don’t get “screwed”
PXG’s new 0311T irons, which many Tour players are enjoying — even those not on staff, like Scott Langley’s bag pictured above — are being made for lefties. A small win for the south polers.
It’s nice to know Parsons isn’t a dexterity-ist*** (discriminatory toward left-handers, right-handers or ambidextrous people).
***I made that up
Business casual
In case you wanted to know, this is how you casually carry a few thousand dollars worth of Oban Kiyoshi shafts… between your fingers, while shoulder-talking and drinking an iced tea. No big deal.
Footwork
How does Patrick Reed keep his right heel down for that long after impact? And, ouch.
Toul-On the grill
Toulon Golf strutting out its “Memphis” milled putter, home of another style of BBQ. A mouth-watering mallet.
Sight line(s)
The sight line on this Nike Method Origin putter is actually two different lines.
Surely this could be used as an alignment/lie angle aid at address.
Note: Don’t make fun of this guy’s pull cart
He’s not in the mood.
